There are currently seven different definitions for identity on Dictionary.com, the first one being “the state or fact of remaining the same one or ones, as under varying aspects or conditions”(“The Definition of Identity”) and the last one being “an instance or point of sameness or likeness”(“The Definition of Identity”). The one of upmost importance to The House on Mango Street though is, “the condition of being oneself or itself, and not another”(“The Definition of Identity”).
