Identity Essay
After finishing the Multidimensional Model of black identity Survey, I was astonished with the results. While reading many of the opposing questions I actually felt myself uncomfortable answering them. Like the instructions stated, it was not an accumulation of all scales. The model consist of three dimensions of African American racial identity: centrality, regard, and ideology. Now reflecting on myself, prior taking this personal survey I always talked upon how I never felt intrusive on my self identity. I was always envious of more whole race individuals because I felt they were closer to their racial identity. I agree with entirely because I found this to be completely true. Even though, I am not fully black, the way society perceives me and how I perceive myself depend on my blackness. I relate to my black side more than my white in almost all situations. Next results come from my private and private subscales. They confirmed that I feel that the black community has made valuable contributions to this society. If you were to look onto the internet and see many of the popular trends in fashion and body looks, you would find attributes from black culture. Growing up with “nappy” hair , big lips,and wide hips I was constantly bullied and hurt from the other kids for my physical appearance. Now to the present day in 2017, the popular trend of getting lip injections, getting perms or box braids, and wanting a surgery on getting a bigger butt. This may not be seen as valuable contributions to society by everyone but i do definitely believe they create a statement. A statement that black people are a powerful enough race to manipulate the world with their traditional beautiful characteristics.I've always wondered why the black culture is deemed more aesthetically pleasing on white people than originally on
