Struggling for the power of the id, ego, and superego, it is very difficult to take control of and to understand. William Golding had made a statement that “we can not leave or escape from our savage and violent tendencies.” There are three parts of a psychological allegory of Lord of the Flies. They are known as the id, ego, and superego which are different aspects of the human mind. The id is the part of the mind that has the most physical effect on a human. Throughout the novel it leads up to a part where Jack puts on a mask. In the novel it states,

Hiding from his shame made him able to act however he wants suppressing the ego and superego, leaving only the id left. Another allegorical example of an id from Lord of the Flies is, “Jack spoke softly, ‘This head is for the beast. It’s a gift. This silence accepted the gift and awed them. The head remained there, dim-eyed, grinning faintly, blood thickening between the teeth. All once they were running away, as fast as they could, through the forest toward the open beach”(137). In this scene, Golding uses symbolism which is the pig’s head on a stick representing their acceptance of evil. As the scene goes on, it describes the hunters giving themselves over to cruelty, savagery and the power of the id. For example, my struggle for the power of my id, ego, and superego is leaving cups and plates in my room. My mother does not like when I leave any plates or cups in my room, so every time I eat food in my room, I try to fight the instinct to just set the plate down and laying down in bed. I feel awful doing this because I know my mom does not like when I just place the cups and plates down,so I try to fight this habit of mine, then my mom will walk into my room, see the diningware, and get very upset. I try my hardest not upset my mom because she has a tough enough time with everything else going on in her life, I know that will upset her more. Just like in Lord of the Flies, the id,ego, and superego plays a huge part, just like it does in life. The novel can be viewed as a religious, biblical, or a psychological allegory.
