Recommended: The history of hockey essay

Ice Hockey is a sport enjoyed by millions of people in primarily the U.S, Canada, and Russia. Even though Ice Hockey is primarily in those three countries most countries have Ice Hockey leagues and people enjoy watching the games. Even though it is enjoyed by so many people, most of them don’t know the origins of it and basic knowledge on how to play Ice Hockey. Who made Ice Hockey? How is it played? These questions, and many more, will be answered. Ice Hockey was not created by a single person. It wasn’t even created by a group of people. It was created when the British brought their stick and ball games to Canada and played on the ice that was there. Ice Hockey originates from Montreal, Canada where the first indoor Hockey game was played in 1875. Ice Hockey was brought to the U.S soon after, but used informal rules and went by “Ice Polo” or “Shinny.” The word “hockey” has no clear origin, but the first known mention of it was in the book Juvenile Sports and Pastimes, to Which Are Prefixed, Memoirs of the Author: Including a New Mode of Infant Education by Richard Johnson. Even though Ice Hockey was created around the 1800’s, the NHL was not created until 1917. In Ice Hockey, keeping score is really easy. The players are the goalie, the two defensemen, the right wing, the left wing, and the center. The goalie stays in the goalie box and tries to stop the ball from getting into the net, the defensemen try to stop the ball before it reaches the net, the right and left wing cover the whole right and left side of the rink respectively, and the center covers the entire rink. Each of these players wear a helmet, shin guards, shoulder pads, chest guards, protective gloves, heavily guarded shorts, ice skates, a jock guard, and a neck guard.
