In the speech given on december 11, 2014 Malala Yousafzai exclaims, “I tell my story not because it is unique but because it is not it is the story of many girls”(Yousafzai, 2014). There's no absolute way of proving that her story is a unique, but this is a form of ethos because she chooses to portray herself as unique and she may not appeal to others in that form. However, some are beginning to yearn for change toward their culture for the good of their future. Such as a young Pakistani girl named, Malala Yousafzai who lived in Swat Valley. She chose to step up against her traditions of many not getting education equality by doing the contrary and persuaded others to join her in the revolt by, writing a novel known as, I Am Malala. Education is something various people feel extremely passionate about and would not want anything else, but a strong educational system around the world. Countless children around the world do not acquire the right to an education and various of those children are girls. Being shot in the face and seriously injured, did not stop Malala Yousafzai from pursuing her dreams. She did not morally agree with her government’s treatment of women, so she fought for her beliefs. Malala grew up in a rural village in Pakistan and was forced to follow customs she did not believe in. Swat Valley changed to a strictly ruled village with discrimination towards women. Malala created awareness around the world of the situation and stood up for her rights to education. Through Malala Yousafzai’s painful experience with growing up in a dangerous part of Pakistan, she created awareness in hope to regain the rights to educational opportunities for women.
Malala faces a big challenge, education. Many people take education for granted, however Malala loves education. She wants to go to school and not have to cover her face. She wants this so much she decides to stand up for it. She started small by little gatherings, interviews and saying how it is not fair and she ended up winning the Nobel Peace Prize. For instance, “The more interviews I gave, the stronger I felt and the more support we received.” She did not stop when she started receiving threats. This semester has been full of ups and downs in all aspects of school, but English has created a challenge and reward all its own. I found this class to be relatively laid back and smooth going especially compared to General Chemistry. My biggest accomplishment in English 110, in my opinion, was writing my Rhetorical Analysis. I was required to write many different papers in many different ways in high school, but I never had to judge another author on their effectiveness of writing. After I wrote my analysis, turned it in, and read it for myself I was fairly happy. I thought that I did very poorly on it, but I did fairly well for my first analysis. I took what I thought I was suppose write, put my own spin on it, and it worked.
All over the world, there are terrible things that have happened, but some people actually see them and have the courage to make the right change. Some of these people have even changed the way the world looks at things. Some great leaders and examples were Harriet Tubman, Melba Patillo Beals, and Malala Yousafzai. All of these characters had big motivations in their lives and felt the need to enact change. Harriet Tubman had lived through slavery herself and wanted to give other slaves the freedom they deserved. Melba was simply a highschool student who chose the long path of integrating an all white high school.
