Recommended: Descriptive story of hurricanes

The awful hurricane of 1938. The hurricane of 1938 started off the coast of Africa. Once it reached a 74 mph wind speed it became a hurricane. The awful impacts were a big cause but the bad weather conditions, and just other conditions in general are what scared people still to this day about how awful this hurricane was. The first few reasons this hurricane was so awful are a few weather conditions. It was raining for four days before it started so there was a lot of high waters. The whole thing got up to 500 miles wide. The flooding got up to 12 to 17 feet and the high 30 to 50 feet waves don’t help the flooding whatsoever. A few second reasonings are just other conditions. People were unaware and not prepared for this hurricane.

Although other hurricanes, such as Hurricane Rita and Hurricane Wilma, exceeded Katrina, this dominant storm was classified as the fourth most intense hurricane based its pressure capacity. Once Hurricane Katrina hit land, it was pronounced as a category four storm moving slowly. While people thought that the slow speed of this storm prevented trauma, records show that Katrina did more damage than any fast-moving storm could have ever achieved (Solanki, 2013). Katrina produced abundant debris. The debris was in such large quantity that if it was stacked together on a football field, the rubble would reach the elevation of ten and a half miles. The size of Katrina also caused 90,000 square miles to be affected. Once proclaimed a category three storm, Hurricane Katrina slowed to the speed of 155 miles per hour.
