The Hunger Games is a series of three adventure novels written by the American author Suzanne Collins. The series is set in The Hunger Games universe, and follows young characters Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark. Throughout The Hunger Games many different symbols and themes present themselves like most novels do to keep their reader interested. There are three main symbols throughout The Hunger Games, which without would leave the book lifeless. One out of the three main symbol in this book would be The Thirteen Districts. As we learn from the novel's first chapter, the country of Panem is located in what once was North America. One important theme in the novel is Power. The totalitarian government of the Capitol. Because the Capitol holds most of the country of Panem’s wealth, the government there is able to control the people in all of the districts across Panem. Another theme in The Hunger Games is Sacrifice. The Hunger Games are just full of sacrifices. Katniss makes a huge personal sacrifice when she takes her sister's place in the Hunger Games. Sacrifices make a big impact because they remind us that human life means something. In a world of reality entertainment like the Hunger Games, that can be a very powerful thing. The third and last main theme in the novel is Society and Class. The Hunger Games is a novel about the “haves” and the “have nots”, the people who have money and the people who don't. While the Capitol is wealthier than all of the districts, some districts are more privileged than others, so they can train their tributes to do well in the Hunger Games – a competition they see as a way to gain glory and
