Similarities and difference between Humans and Chimpanzees Most people consider Humans and chimpanzees to be completely different from one another, but are we? Humans and chimpanzees share an estimated 98 percent genetic similarity with each other. What does that mean though? And if we are similar genetically do humans and chimpanzees act similarly? Those question and more are what I am going to examine in this paper. We are 98.8 percent similar to chimpanzees (as I said) but what is similar in our genetic code and what’s not. Well that question is not exactly one that can be easily answered (nor would the answer you receive be a whole one) because for one humans have more information in our cells compared to chimps …show more content…

Though an interesting point to bring up is that tool usage is not unique to humans and chimpanzees (and other apes), for example ravens have been seen to use sticks in order to get food out of crevices. Chimpanzees in the wild often live in communities where they hunt in groups and share what food they gather with one another. And like in human communication body language and actions like hugging or kissing are very important for chimpanzees (Muir). One of the most astounding similarities though is that it is believed the chimpanzees can feel emotions (like sadness and joy) and that those emotions can influence their actions just like with humans. Those similarities and more are the evidence that chimpanzees and humans are closely related, but there are still many differences between our species’ that affects how humans and chimps settle in their environment. One of the most obvious physical differences is in stance humans are bipedal (walk on two legs) while chimpanzees walk on all fours (most of the time there are times where a chimpanzee has walked on two legs but that is not standard). Also some other obvious physical differences are in how hairy chimpanzees are compared to humans and how short they are when compared to …show more content…

But humans are a unique species, we are a species that with years and years of knowledge being passed down from one generation to the next have built cities and we have shaped our environment more so than anything else, in fact we have shaped our environment to the point where our actions are changing the whole face of the planet (for better or worse). Humans have gone to the highest peaks on earth and traveled down to the earths greatest depths, we have also reached beyond our world to the reaches of outer space (I mean consider how far some of our satellites have gone, each giving us humans more and more information on the universe around us). Humans are similar to chimpanzees in terms of anatomy and the basics of our behavior, but the 1.2 percent difference between us and chimpanzees (and other genetic differences) have far separated us from our closet living
