I believe that personalities are made up of traits which are social descriptions, to help define the learned patterns that influence people’s reactions in social surroundings. I believe as humans our personality is developed through life experiences. Our personalities are constantly changing throughout our lives. When it comes to understanding yourself which I feel is essential in understanding your personality. I agree with the Humanistic Theory of Carl Rogers. I believe that there is only subjective-reality. Which is each person’s unique perception of what is going on around them. I believe this is where Albert Bandua theory of social learning comes into play. His theory is personalities are simply something that is learned; it is the sum total of all the ways we have learned to act, to think, and to feel (Lahey, 410). His theory really hones in on the fact that humans play an active role in determining their actions and their actions are altered by the individuals own perception of the social surroundings. Here is where again subjective-reality come into play. People view reality differently from each other. When a person is in a situation, they may perceive the situation differently than the next person would, causing a different reaction. I believe the way we perceive our surroundings has to do with what we have learned are good and bad reactions from the people around us. An individual’s similar reaction create traits. Traits are defined as relatively enduring patterns of behavior that are relatively consistent across situations (Lahey 396). Albert Trait Theory suggests that since traits are groups of consistent reactions it is the best way to predict and understand an individual. I feel the word trait is also a broad definition, to group similar reactions together. Humans have similar traits like shy, polite, and angry. Our personalities are created of traits which are predictable patterns of reactions from being in similar social settings and learning from those settings. With age our personality changes and grows because we come across more situations. Over time we will face situations, react and have time to look back and learn. So when we are faced with that situation again we will have already learned how to perceive it. We will react in a similar way and those similarities are the traits that make up our
