The field of Human Services can be very challenging. However, it can also have moments of being very rewarding. Human Services, according to the National Organization for Human Services, “is broadly defined as having a unique approach towards meeting the goals of human needs. These goals are met through interdisciplinary knowledge, being involved with the totality and overall quality of one’s life, remediation of problems, and maintaining a commitment throughout the process” (NOHS, 2009). With the ability to work well with people, it is evident that Human Services personnel would make a positive contribution to our world.

When I was interviewing the assistant director, I asked her what is the meaning and purpose behind their philosophy and curriculum. Does each one go hand in hand with each other? Knowing that this information is on their website, I wanted to see how knowledgeable she was with their company.
To my astonishment, she was very knowledgeable. She stated, “yes, they go hand in hand” then proceeded to inform me on how their curriculum is in alignment with the Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards (GELDS) and how each area of development such as social/emotional, cognitive development, physical development, and communication skills all comes with certain goals that must be met each and every quarter. Having a well-structured setting to implement programs, creates opportunities for the children to complete their homework with the help of tutors, enjoy a wholesome snack that is prepared daily by the cook, and continue to build on the skills being taught within the school system. Having a more laid-back atmosphere where each program is targeted towards a specific age group that is suitable for their specific needs allows each individual to engage in recreational play, socialization, or educational games and activities thus, eliminating the feeling of being unwanted.
