The clear understanding of both the role of the Human Services Worker and the role of the client in treatment. My understanding of the role of the client and the human services worker is that the worker is there to help the client. It used to be that the worker was in a position of power, and dictated what to do to with the client. This is no longer the case, however. The client has their own power to change things, and the goal is to improve the client’s strengths, not “fix” their weaknesses. It is also important for both the client and the worker to realize that they are both there to help each other. The client must not think that they are useless and the worker must realize that it is their job to help the client form a healthy interdependence …show more content…

I try not to let things get to me and I try not to let problems I’m having influence my work. This is good so that my personal life doesn’t interfere with my work life. An area where I can grow is that I am very emotional, and I think that can be a problem in my line of work. Usually when I am bothered by something, unless I am close with someone, then I don’t really let the other people know what’s wrong. I like to keep a lot of my emotions inside and I know that isn’t a good thing to do. It is important for Human Services Workers to communicate effectively because a major component of our job is communication. We need to effectively speak with our client about the issues they are having and properly let them know what we can do to help and what they can do. We need to properly relay information about things happening in their community that we want them to attend and speak to them on a deeper level about the problems they are facing and how to deal with those problems. It is important to know how to communicate in a group because sometimes Human Service Workers work with multiple clients at work and need to know how to work with all of them effectively.
