One thing that I have learned this semester about the human service world is that nonprofits provide the largest contribution towards addressing social issues and advocating for change in the United States. To help achieve their goal, nonprofits receive contributions that are tax-deductible. Consequently, the trade-off for having such benefits also creates limitations on certain activities. In this case, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which is a government agency that oversees nonprofits and their tax-exempt status, restricts the act of legislative lobbying. As a result, nonprofits are prohibited to directly interact and influence decision makers.

As a novice social worker, I am already anticipating the stacks of heavy caseloads, exceptional rates of emotional clients, as well as the unique ethical quandaries I will face on a daily basis. Therefore, a way that I will address the stress will be by adopting healthy strategies to promote self-care at work and home. For example, one method would be to utilize supervision time, which provides opportunities to openly discuss about difficult cases or ethical dilemmas. By having an increased awareness of who you as a person, you are able to professionally respond and influence your clients more effectively. I would be able to modify behaviors based on client reactions, understand their defense mechanisms, and be able to set appropriate goals and objectives based off their strengths and weaknesses. Another beneficial skill that I can incorporate in human service is the ability to work and interact well with diverse cultures and groups. This skill can be implied when working with diverse groups of clients or other professionals in an interdisciplinary team. Moreover, I am able to work and facilitate cooperation with other professions and respect the different areas of knowledge and expertise. This would also include expanding potential networks with people outside the organization, as well as building further rapport with staff, including my supervisor.
To seek out quality supervision, I would build rapport with someone who has the experience or knowledge I seek, as well as the willingness to help me in my current role or assist me with future endeavors. When searching for a mentor, I will also be open to the various differences, characteristics, and personalities among potential candidates so that my options are not
