Baseball is a very demanding sport, like many others. It is a game of mental and physical ability and takes a lot of training. Although all the work that players put into it is well worth it when they get their checks. In a baseball season there are 162 games and half of them are away. This means for over 81 days a year not including days that you are traveling, you are away from home and your family. Training for major league baseball starts in Spring Training in February and the season can last all the way through November if your team makes it to the World Series. Your duties depend on the position you play. The pitcher throws the ball to the hitting team the catcher is there to block the balls from going past home plate. The infield tries to get outs when the other team hits the ball in the air or when a ground ball is hit at them. Pretty much you just need to be a really good baseball player and they will draft you. But, there is a lot of competition for playing. There are 30 teams and only 25 spots on each of their roster and everyone wants to be the top player. Also, people from all around the world come to America just to play baseball. Some people from Japan move to America just to play. Lastly, only 5-6% of people that are drafted from high school even make it to the Major League. Everything becomes worth it when the players get their check. In 2013, the lowest salary was $490,000, the lowest salary is over 10 times the average salary in 2013. the highest salary in 2013 was 29 million dollars. that's over 55 times of what the average salary was in 2013.
