Capitalism was growing rapidly and it began to cause major problems in the eyes of some. Many different leaders at the time called for a change to Capitalism and wanted to put an end to the problems that it had caused. At the head of this attack was a German philosopher by the name of Karl Marx. Karl Marx saw many problems with Capitalism like how he thought that Capitalism encouraged a gap between the rich and the poor, and thus was a major problem for the laborers and the working class referred to as the proletariat . Marx believed that Capitalism would eventually not be accepted as a system of government, and if the proletariat were to rise up against their oppressors(the Bourgeoisie), it would create freedom for the society. Some of Marx's predictions of the future were not accurate, but he can still be seen as one of the most influential philosophers in human history who still holds great influence even in the world today. Marx sees various problems with the system of Capitalism. Marx states that "Society as a whole is more and more splitting up into two great hostile camps, into two great classes directly facing each other — Bourgeoisie and Proletariat"(Marx, The Communist Manifesto,1848). Capitalism in Marx's eyes, is a class struggle between the proletariat and the bourgeoisie. The proletariat or the working class are not being treated equally by the Capitalists. These workers are paid very little and do not control anything. The workers who are working hard to produce the goods for the capitalist do not get enough credit for their work. Many people refer to Marx as one of the most influential philosophical writers, while others call him the devil. Although Marx was very wrong with most of his predictions that communism would take over capitalism in the future, he did have many good arguments that caused debates everywhere. People in the world today still argue over the ideas of Marx and whether or not they could have even been possible. Many people even say that Marx's writings did not focus on providing a solution but were just criticizing the system of that time. Marx did however propose many different policies that we use today. The gap between the rich and the poor continues to grow as Marx had predicted. His famous "Working Men of All Countries, Unite!"(Marx, Communist Manifesto,1848) is still referred to by many. The key policy that he called for in his Communist Manifesto was the progressive income tax which they did not have back then but, we now have in our world today.
