The author, Saki uses many methods for developing all of his characters. Saki uses multiple techniques when developing characters for short stories. Saki use Direct, Indirect, and motivational character traits. These methods and techniques allow a writer to bring characters to life.

To lead off, the author, Saki uses direct characterization, by using the character Vera in the short story, “The Open Window” as an example. direct characterization is, stating directly what a character is like. For example, on page 89, it states, “Sergeant Randolph was the cruelest drillmaster in the regiment.” The clue that it was direct characterizations when it stated, “cruelest”, word described the character's personality.
