Love is a theme used quite often in the book A Tale of Two Cities by “Charles Dickens.” Love is very powerful and can many times be life changing to a person. Many times love is good for a person, but love also hurts people. Jarvis Lorry, Sydney Carton, Dr. Manette, and Lucie manette are all greatly changed from their love of Lucie. Dr. Manette is greatly affected by his love for Lucie. When Dr. Manette sees Lucie’s beautiful golden hair it suddenly reminds him of his wife. Dr. manette said “She was the golden thread that united him to a Past beyond his misery, and to a Present beyond his misery.” This is showing that he is happy when they are reunited with one another. The love he has for his daughter influences his recovery from being locked up in prison for 18 years. All he knows is shoe cobbling and prison. Dr. Manette loves his daughter so much because she reminds him so much of his wife and because he finally gets to see his daughter, this influences Dr. Manette into becoming a better person. Before meeting Lucie, Jarvis was a man of business. This means that Jarvis Lorry does not care about anything else but his business. Lucie eventually changes Lorry into a loving father like figure. "It's a dreadful remembrance. Besides that, his loss of himself grew out of it.
