Recommended: What barriers do people face in sport with gender inequality

One person cannot change the World, but I believe that one person can change something in this World. Whether it is within their own community or worldwide, each individual is capable of change. As a young child I have always been a quiet, shy person often distancing myself from everyone around me. It was difficult for me to make friends and connect to people on an emotional level, all I had was my family and a few friends I have known my entire life. Luckily when I was seven years old I began to play basketball, little did I know that an orange basketball would change my life forever. Though it is true that men's basketball is more of a demand in the sports industry it is not fair to downplay the women who take the sport seriously. Women's basketball might have been more of a demand if the women were exposed and praised as much as the men are. Despite the many restrictions that were placed on me I achieved my goal of obtaining a scholarship to play basketball at a University. Now being completely aware of the inequalities that take place in the basketball community my goal is pave a way for young female basketball players. I want to give them an opportunity that was never given to me or anyone before me. I do not want them to feel hopeless, or believe they cannot achieve their full potential. I want them to gain all the awareness and recognition that the males are receiving. What I plan to do is create a basketball organization for female basketball players to obtain an education, play on a team, and travel for no cost. Eventually I wish to have institutions across Ontario, but for now it will begin in Toronto because Toronto is where my heart lies and for this to be successful it must begin with passion and heart.
