Jurassic Park may seem like a fantastic idea; however, as shown in the movies, the park was a dangerous island that could not contain the prehistoric animals they had resurrected. In fact, visiting the park would be completely irrational after weighing the risks. The only reason anyone would endanger themselves would be to satisfy their childhood curiosity. Despite the clear and present dangers of entering Jurassic Park, a large number of people would still visit an actual Jurassic Park. It is common to see people ignore risks and allow what they feel to drive their choices, but it’s nothing new. Mankind has always been emotionally driven. In his series of Sunflower paintings, Vincent van Gogh argues that man is ultimately controlled by emotion. He struggled with depression throughout his life, often caused by disappointing romantic endeavors. C.S. McConnell, writer for the Salem Press Biographical Encyclopedia, notes that when van Gogh found his first love interest was engaged and had been playing with him, he became depressed. This bout of depression sent him away from the art gallery and towards the church. Van Gogh enjoyed studying theology and traveled to a coal-mining district of Belgium for missionary work where he grew attached to the villagers. Unfortunately, due to behavior the church saw as overzealous, he was dismissed.
