The Industrial Revolution had a huge affect on today’s society. Practically every aspect of our lives and its mass production of goods stem from those 50 odd years in the mid to late 19th century. It was a period during which mostly rural areas in Europe and America became industrial and urban. (Spielvogel 603) Industrialization brought an increase in volume and varieties of manufactured goods. For some people it improved the standard of living, but it also resulted in often horrible employment and living conditions for the poor working classes. (Spielvogel 607) Several cities in the UK quite literally popped up overnight due to manufacturing. As well as cities, the idea of Capitalism which had been around for awhile, was really put into practice during the Industrial Revolution. (Spielvogel 593) The whole of Western Society became bent on making and selling a product at an affordable price while making as much a profit as possible and increasing production. This in turn led to more people being able to afford more goods than ever before. Leisure became a huge thing for everyone. The whole concept of having free time could have a reasonable origin here. With the fact that you were not always having to work in a field during the harvest and or planting for the harvest non-stop. This led to people having the time to pursue other interests. Another thing that the Industrial Revolution helped was education. Before the 1800s, education was considered a luxury. With the rise of manufacturing, employers and the government made it easier for children and parents to receive a proper education. Illiterate employees do not make for very useful
