There are a ton of reasons that made the colonies turn against Britain. Most of which involve taxes. Or more specifically, taxation without representation. This is the act of the government taxing the people who have no say in what happens to the government or their country. Other reasons involve laws, closing trade and the increase of british soldiers in the American colonies. The American colonists refused and boycotted the laws that the british were enforcing, causing the American Revolution. The soldiers were sent there to control the people after The Boston Tea Party, an event where the Sons of Liberty threw millions of dollars worth of british tea into the Boston Harbor. The colonists were forced to open up their homes to these strangers and feed them. The same people whose country is forcing them to give away so much of their own money. The colonists obviously did not want these people taking up their space and controlling them, which caused the Boston Massacre. The Boston Massacre was a tragedy that took place in Boston, Massachusetts. British soldiers were gathered, and the people did not like them there. So the colonists yelled insults, and threw snowballs and rocks at the soldiers as a way to compensate for the bad things Britain had done to the people. The soldiers however, fired back. They shot into the protesting crowd, shooting eleven people and killing five. The massacre just created more tension between the British and the colonists. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines massacre as “the act or an instance of killing a number of usually helpless or unresisting human beings under circumstances of atrocity or cruelty” or “a cruel or wanton murder” (m-w.com). Essentially a massacre results in either the death of many people or death by cruel means. The Boston Massacre occurred on March 5, 1770, in Boston, Massachusetts and involved American colonists and British troops. The colonists, upset by recent laws enacted by the British, taunted a smaller group of British soldiers by throwing snowballs at them (Boston Massacre Historical Society). In response, the soldiers fired upon the unarmed colonists leaving five people dead and six wounded (Phelan, 131). Even though the event in Boston on March 5, 1770, in which blood was shed, and called the Boston Massacre, the actions which took place on that day did not constitute a massacre. Since only five people were killed and six wounded and there was no evidence of cruelty, the name Boston Massacre was likely a propaganda ploy by Samuel Adams to rally the colonists against the British instead of a true massacre.
The American Revolution (1775-1783) was a war between England and the colonies which were settled earlier by the English. There were many factors and events that led to the American Revolution. The Revolution was mainly an economic rebellion that was fueled by taxation without representation following the French and Indian War. The English Parliament was more often than not considered cruel and unfair by the colonists. With conflicts over trade, taxes and government representation, the colonies were at a starting line of a revolution that would later transform into the basis of the United States of America.
There are four major reasons that the rebellion of the colonists accumulated into a full scale revolution. The most indistinct of these four reasons is the old societal legacies of the colonies, namely: social, political, religious, and economic values. The British were trying to control the Americans entirely, with their monopoly on trade, and also thought that the Americans would do everything they demanded them to do. The colonists soon figured out Great Britain's angle on the situation. That was, they didn't understand why they were forced to pay taxes to the British, when they had no say in Britain's actions.
King George’s Taxes The most fundamental reason for the American Revolution was the colonist’s outrage over taxation which led to a tax revolt launched by people who were tired of the burden of paying unfair taxes. The king placed taxes known as Townsend Acts, on the colonist’s tea, paper, paint, lead, glass, and many other items that were used daily and the colonists were against this taxing. The purpose of the Townsend Acts was to help pay the cost of government in America.

Which led him to decide they would regain their money by taxing the colonist. His poor decisions of taxing the people without their agreement outraged them and sent them into a state of revolt.
The American colonists had a large amount of causes for rebelling against the British, as King George III was acting in his best interests as a dictator, not in the interests of the colonists. The British, including King George, had no right to force the colonists to pay taxes. At the time, Britain was the most powerful country in Europe, it could have easily gained money another way. It also became evident that many colonists were no longer loyal to the British crown, and that colonists were unhappy under Britain. Many former loyalists now recognized the potential of America, that Britain was no longer needed to rule over the thirteen colonies. Along with all of these problems, the British government was not protecting the rights of its American citizens, only its citizens that lived in Britain under Parliament.
On March 5, 1770, an event occurred in Boston, which consisted of British troops shooting upon colonists. People refer to this as a massacre, but they only look at one side of the story. The Boston Massacre in 1770 was not really a massacre, but a mutual riot (Boston Massacre History Society). British soldiers went to America to keep the people of Boston in order. However, the soldier's presence there was not welcomed by the Bostonians and this made things worse (Boston Massacre History Society). The British had to fire their guns because the Bostonians were antagonizing the soldiers, which caused five people to die. The Bostonians made the soldiers feel threatened so in turn they acted in self-defense. The British soldiers and their Captain had to go through a trial, to prove they were not to blame for what had occurred.
Before the Boston Massacre even occurred, tensions were high in the city of Boston between the Bostonians and the British. At this time people were just getting over the Stamp Act and were now angered by the new taxes also known as the Townshend Duties. This new tax caused Bostonians to become more aggressive causing the British to send more soldiers to impose the laws of Parliament and to restore order among the people. The arrival of more soldiers only caused more of an uproar between the people of Boston and the red coats. Bostonians went out of their way to harass British soldiers whenever they got the chance, but on March 5, 1770 both sides acted unacceptably resulting in the Boston Massacre (84-85).
The Boston Massacre was one the most controversial massacre in American history that teased the coming of the American Revolution. People were taunting a British soldier who was standing “in front of the Boston Custom House” who got very frustrated to the point where he hit somebody.
