Prior to the United States entering World War I, President Woodrow Wilson discovered that remaining neutral during this period was becoming increasingly difficult after constant challenges with Germany. The Zimmerman Telegram and the sinking of multiple American ships by Germany became a breaking point for Wilson, and after staying neutral for three years, the United States ultimately entered the war in April, a month after Wilson announced his Second Inaugural Address speech on March 4, 1917.
