Muhammad Ali was a very important figure in world for many reason. While he was not the first to pave the way for blacks in professional sports like Jackie Robinson, he did play an important role in the movement. He stood up for what he believed was right and did not care what people thought about him. His political views of the world did not always agree with what was going on, and he made it clear he was not giving into what others thought. Instead, he influenced the people of the world by having his own views that others soon began to follow. The Vietnam War was taking place when Ali was in his 20’s. He actually spoke about racial injustices. His refusal to the war helped spark the antiwar movement, and even caused important figures such as Martin Luther King gto speak out against the war. When asked why he refused to join the army, Ali said, “"I’m not going 10,000 miles from home to continue the domination of white slave masters of the darker people the world over.” He became a symbol of the civil rights movement. Along with speaking out, Ali created the Main Bout Inc. They wanted to promote economic power in the black lives. The profits came from Muhammad Ali's winnings in matches, and helped fund the black community. While the five main stockholders were islamic, the main goal was to help African Americans start their own business and be able to be as financially stable as the white people. While Muhammad was a remarkable human, he did have his faults like any other human. In his young age, he often made comments about race that angered many people. For instance, he once said “Integration is wrong.
