I am reading Paper Towns by John Green and I am on page 115. This book is about a eighteen year old high school student, named Quentin Jacobson and his next door neighbor Margo Roth Spiegelman. When they were younger they hung out together all the time but as they kept growing older their friendship grew apart. Margo is a popular student and is known by everyone, whereas Quentin is a shy kid with not as many friends. Quentin never forgot about Margo and secretly has had a crush on her throughout his life. One night, Margo snuck into Quentin’s room and asked him to drive her around town for eleven tasks she had to do by that night. He said yes and one by one they prank eleven of Margo’s friends. He started to think that they could be friends …show more content…

I think she ran away because she was sick of the same old routine everyday. “life has become the future. Every moment of your life is lived for the future—you go to high school so you can go to college so you can get a good job so you can get a nice house so you can afford to send your kids to college so they can get a good job so they can get a nice house so they can afford to send their kids to college” (Green 34). Margo was tired of going to school everyday with the same people. She was also tired of the drama that came with high school, and wanted to get away from all of it. She loved being adventurous and seeked greater things than what living in her town offered. Also, Margo was a mysterious girl that not one could really understand. “Margo always loved mysteries. And in everything that came afterward. I could never stop thinking that maybe she loves mysteries so much that she became one” (Green 8). She was not like the rest in her school, and she stood out for it. While she was very popular and loved by everyone, people could not expect what she would be up to next. Even in the beginning when she was not showing up to school, people thought it was just one of her usual quick getaways. Ultimately, I think Margo left town because she was an adventure seeker, who could not conform to the everyday life of her …show more content…

She is a popular but mysterious girl that people know to only a certain level. “That’s always seemed so ridiculous to me, that people would want to be around someone because they’re pretty. It’s like picking your breakfast cereals based on color instead of taste” (Green 37). She relates to teenage girls because most are held to a certain level like she is in the book. Like Margo, girls also have struggles of their own no one knows about. In both instances, they are trying to figure out themselves when people already have a picture portrayed in their mind about the person. Also, in the book Margo gets betrayed by one of her best friends, and girls also go through difficulties with friendships. “When you say nasty things about people, you should never say the true ones, because you can’t really fully and honestly take those back” (Green 46). Margo made a rash decision after her boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend, and pranked them and left town. Throughout teenage years, girls can go through many struggles in friendships. Jealousy is one of many struggles girls endure in friendships with their friends. Feelings can get hurt quickly and poor decisions can be an effect of it. Clearly, Margo can be related to teenage girls in this world
