The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli demonstrated the Renaissance values of the Greco-Roman tradition, secularism, and realism. Machiavelli wrote The Prince in two parts, secularism and realism. He also showed that there was a good amount of Greco-Roman tradition during the Renaissance Europe era. Machiavelli made sure that The Prince demonstrated the values of the Renaissance Period and it was written making it so there were new values. Machiavelli wanted to make sure that everyone knew that there were new values and they needed to be implemented.

Machiavelli tells about how the princes do not worry about being cruel to the patrons of their kingdom if it helps them to get more power and rule their kingdom more effectively (Machiavelli, 44). This is a challenge because before the kingdoms were very much religion based and now all the princes want is to be in charge of as many territories as possible without having to deal with conflict. The princes’ kingdoms are based on secularism instead of having religion as part of everything that they do throughout the kingdom. Machiavelli also tells that princes need to act like they are moral and religious, but they really do not have to actually be. Realism is demonstrated in The Prince multiple times. Machiavelli says that a prince needs to be seen like they have all the good qualities that a prince should have, even if they actually do not possess all these qualities (Machiavelli, 46). This is important that princes follow this, or they might not be liked. There is a chance that the people that are under the prince will not appreciate that he is deceiving them and try to overthrow him anyway. Machiavelli also continually says that the princes cannot always be a good person and there is no way that they are going to be a good leader if they always try to be a good person. Sometimes princes have to be deceiving and not a good person for the best of their kingdom.
