Struggling days. Tough spirit. Racial lifestyle. Many African Americans had to face the struggle of living through a time where they were hated. In the 1920s racism was a huge problem in the United States. Most black people believed that segregation and racism was a horrible act and it should be terminated, people with different color skin should be able to live freely. Racism should be put to an end through the strength of the African American community and trying to make a difference just like Langston Hughes. He changed the way people look at African Americans because of the impact he created through his perseverance, influence of his language and style, and lastly the actions done by African American people who were impacted. The Harlem Renaissance took place from the beginning of the 1920s to the middle of the 1930s, which was also after World War II. It was the cultural, social, and artistic explosion that took place in Harlem, which was the cultural center for African Americans, drawing in black writers, artist, musicians, and poets ( The Harlem Renaissance ). This era helped many African Americans believe in themselves thinking they could do what they wanted to do and to make a difference in their community. Langston Hughes is one of the biggest advocates of the Harlem Renaissance for his inspiration and leadership he showed for other African Americans. What influenced people in his writings were that he wrote his poetry on what the people in his community need for life and that's why many of his own followed him and were inspired by him as well. He Showed that the poetry he produced showed the beliefs and shows he is the voice of the black community back in the 1960s (200 Years of Afro- American Poetry). Langston Hughes wrote most of his poetry about his life experiences, his racial views and the racism he has seen and experienced, and lastly the way black people were treated (Bevilacqua, Winifred Farrant. ). For example, in the poem Theme for English B he wrote about his life as a young student living in New York City, and he says in the poem about the struggles he had to go through, the way how he had to handle racism problems that he had to go through, and lastly the way he was treated as a black man living in New York City. This poem shows African Americans that he went through the same situation that they are going through. It made them realize that if he went through the same situation and still was able to make a huge impact, other people could do the same as he did and made a big impact on

The decade between 1920 and 1930 was an extremely influential span of time for the Black culture. During these years Blacks were able to come together and form a united group that expressed a desire for enlightenment.
