Harriet Tubman was born in 1822 and her birth name was Araminta; she later took the first name of her mother, Harriet Ross though. Harriet got remarried on March 18, 1869, to Nelson Danis. In 1874 they adopted a girl who they named Gertie. Nelson Davis (Harriet’s husband) suffered from Tuberculosis and could not hold a steady job, leaving Harriet responsible for the household. Harriet died on March 10, 1913, but today she would be 196 years old. Although that was Harriet’s home life she is famous for something far more greater. She helped free slaves through the underground railroad. She became known as “the Moses of her People”. After escaping herself she went back for years and saved over 300 people from slavery.
