The twelfth question was, “How many close friends would you say you have now; Has the number of close friends changed over time”? My grandmother said she has about three close friends that she works with and that number has changed over the past few years. My grandfather said he only has one close friend that he keeps in contact with from previous work, and the number of friends also has changed over time. The last individual said she only has four close friends that she gained from work and the number of friends has changed over time. The thirteenth question was, “Are you involved in any groups outside your family and if so, what are the reasons you are involved and what benefits do you receive”? The first interviewee said she is involve in church groups with her church. She goes to this groups because she is on her way to heaven and the groups help her become closer with the Lord. The second interviewee said he is involve with the church and is a Deacon of the church. He goes to church, so he can also become closer to God and go to heaven when he calls. My grandmother’s response was, “The government should take the benefits from the younger adults that do not want to work and give them to the older adults that have been busting their hump to put food on the table for their family. My grandfather’s response to this question was, “They should take care of the older adults that have worked and done their time and give them more benefits. The last interviewee’s response was, “The government should help the elderly to meet their needs financially and
...derly at work places and at home will improve their mental and social wellbeing. The aging population will affect every single citizen in Canada. Not one citizen wants a raise in taxes; however, if there is not any strategy setup to combat the aging population issues, Canadians will see raises in taxes causing frustration. Implementing these strategies will not only keep the elderly happy, but it will keep them healthy. The healthier an individual is, the less medical expenses, so why not get started on investing on this project which can save citizens several tax dollars. The results obtained in the primary research reinforce the support of the strategies presented. Majority of the participants understand the possible economic and health care issues the aging population will bring, thus getting started on this matter sooner will be beneficial for Canada’s future.
Studies have found there is a major gap between the rich and the poor. The rich keep getting richer and the poor are getting even poorer. In order for society to help the elderly we must make cuts in other areas where funding is not really needed, rather than making cuts that are affecting our elderly. Cuts could be made in areas such as the tax brackets for the rich. I do not believe it fair for the rich to have such big tax break when our elderly generation is suffering so much. The rich should not be able to get Medicaid and pocket so much other monies in certain areas. If individuals are making a certain amount of monies there should not be any form of loopholes that are allowed for them to get over.
..., with the advancement of technology and medical systems, both the life span and available labor years have increased to a great extent. In such a context, the value of the senior citizens who intend to enter or reenter the labor force should be evaluated not only socially but also economically. While being praised for its function in social administration as an improvement in senior life quality and community harmony, senior employment should also be applauded for its huge economic value: with the adoption of this labor pool, the burden of population aging would be relieved considerably. Our program, which is going to put an emphasis on the minority group among the elderly, would provide an important supplement to the already existing senior employment assistance programs, in helping senior job seekers find their suitable location in the society and our economy.
The older you become, the more discrimination and ageism you bear to face. When looking at results from call backs from job applications, it does not matter if jobs are sales, administration, janitors or security positions, the rates of call backs for an older person are significantly less positive than that of a younger person. (See Appendix B) It is not a matter of an older person losing their skills at a job more as discrimination as to the reason why the elderly have a longer time span of unemployment. Matthews, S. (2015) Workplace ageism is one of the more blatant forms of ageism besides stereotypes because it is so often referred to. “Age Discrimination in Employment Act (ADEA) as of 1967 makes it unlawful for organization with 20 or more employers to base employment decisions, like pay, benefits, and promotions on a person’s age”. (study.com) Even though it may be illegal, it is still commonly found in court rooms to this day. Employers may send subtle or clear messages to older workers to pick up in which they are not wanted. Examples of ageism in the workplace are as follows, when older adult workers are passed over for career opportunities, promotions and training. (See Appendix C) Also when employers, committees and lunch n’ learns focus their attention to the needs of younger employees. Worldwide, M. (2016). During an interview process for a job, elderly ageism as discrimination may come up when questions such as “ ‘Are you sure you can handle this job? It takes a lot of energy and enthusiasm, and we are looking for someone with career potential’ ‘you don’t need this training program. At your age, what would the benefit be?’” Printer, Q., & Ontario.
Before the 1930s the care and support of the elderly fell in the hands of the local, state and family rather than that of the federal government (Ourdocumnets.gov). With the Great Depression, families and the local government was unable to care for the elderly, retired or disabled Americans and they would soon find themselves homeless and living on the streets. The old-age program assisted these people in keeping their homes and giving them the chance to live and rest. With the Social Security Act now signed into law there were bound to be changes made and services expanded upon to cover the needs of
As a person reaches retirement age, they are faced with many things to deal with. Retirement from work is one of the many realities they face. If they are not financially stable enough to retire, many continue to work rather than face the uncertainty of their financial future. Retirees do not get enough from Social Security that many are forced to live in low cost housing or become homeless, especially our veterans. Applying for Medicare Insurance is another obstacle an elderly person will have to face. Many are afraid that they may not be able to han...
In result of social security, people aged sixty-five and older are the second-richest age group in the United States. Political economists recently estimated the government spends $350 billion on senior citizens, more than on national defense! In conclusion, the vulnerability of senior citizens and their reliance on these programs has caused an explosion in senior citizen voter turnout and open political participation. The fear of losing benefits was very strong in the 1996 election, where both President Clinton and Senator Dole were found to campaign strongly in areas with an abundance of senior citizens, such as in Florida. In result of the fear of losing their civil rights and continued use of these programs, senior citizens continue to be very politically active which causes a strong influence on the president.
This strategy aims to employ workers from different backgrounds to provide tangible and intangible benefits for the business. The employers are the ones who control everything from the wage, promotions, incentives and the termination of the older counterparts. They are increasingly concerned about updated skills, physical demands, early retirement, and the cost of maintaining an older worker. Despite how employers may feel, companies cannot afford to neglect talent at any age. The employer should take advantage of the skills that the older employee posses, and carefully position them in jobs that matches their skill level as well as the job to be done. “Regardless of the change organizations make in the structure and functioning of the workplace of the future, it appears likely that older workers will play a crucial role (Hedge,Borman,& Lammlein, 2006). Different acts and laws are governed to respond to any discrimination against older employees in the workforce. Employment agencies, labor unions, local, state and Federal government are bound by these laws such as: Older Workers Benefits Protection Act (OWBPA); The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Older Americans Act (OAA), to name a few. Funds for service by the Congress are provided in forms of grants for various programs yearly. States, counties, and cities recognize the value of the servicing and are generous in providing additional funds, benefits and in-kind economic benefits too. Because area and state agencies on aging are doing very little in a way to use mass media to promote themselves, the aging network is probably missing a large number of disadvantage people who should be receiving services but who are unaware of them. Much more emphasis has been placed on tying together the federal services for the older workers, but it should not have taken a federal initiative to make states see
Two sets of twins live in the house cattycorner to mine. All four are girls, and all four are in diapers. The oldest set of twins, Michelle and Caitlin, are my age, and we quickly become playmates. Caitlin has striking red hair that drapes the bottom of her shoulder blades. She is so outgoing she would chat with a hobo on the street if her mother were not there to stop her. Michelle, on the other hand, is quieter and more reserved. She is an inch or two shorter than the kids her age, and lacks the confidence that dominates her sister's personality. She clings to me. Her shy personality coincides with my bold and adventurous one. She willingly becomes my sidekick, and joins me in numerous neighborhood adventures. We travel the grassy plains, and trek across the muddy rivers, stopping only for the occasional diaper change, and the pacifiers that fall behind. Our friendship is uncommon, exciting, and pure, but I am too young to treasure this rare gift that God has given me.
A lot of people use the term soulmate for their one true love: their husband or wife but, I believe my best friend is my soulmate. From the first day I met Jason I knew we were going to be friends for a long time, I just had a good feeling about him. Freshman year fourth period math was where my life would be forever changed, the first day of class our teacher had a seating chart and he sat us next to each other but different rows, we started talking and getting to know each other more. We knew each other from middle school, but we never talked because we hung out with different people. I knew I was going to like him because we had a lot in common and we were both very sarcastic and witty I finally found someone on my level.
The liberals unlike conservatives think that the government should assist the elderly because many older people never had the opportunities to earn the money needed to carry them through old age. They also state that many families now need both spouses’ earnings to achieve their own needs. And lastly the radical-left view states that due to the capitalist U.S economy the elderly are viewed as a costly burden to society (Macionis). To help explain this social problem even more we can use the social-conflict theory: aging and economic inequality. This theory focuses on age stratification and points to ways that the U.S. society limits the opportunities and resources available to elders. Even though there are laws that ban age discrimination in the workplace company still prefer to hire younger workers as well as wanting older people to retire so they can be replaced with the younger crowd. In conclusion, company while in pursuit of profit treat older people as second-class citizens (Macionis). Given these points, there are many solutions offered up. With the conservative view point they believe that a culture of self-reliance will motivate people to provide for their own old
What is Friendship and How is God Man’s Best friend? What is a friend? If someone were to ask this question, it would get many contending answers. Some may say a friend is someone who has common interests, others may say it’s someone who is incredibly generous and enjoyable.
Having friends is a natural occurrence in most lives. The majority of people do not think of going anywhere without their friends, especially teenagers. Where these ordinary teens find their acquaintances is in high school. It is where friends are made and hold a substantial role in the students’ lives. High school students choose their friends for various reasons, and some of their choices may result in positive and negative effects.
I remember how simple life was back when I was still in high school. I would go to school, go home afterwards and take a nap after completing my homework, and then when I would wake up, I would eat something and hang out with my friends at the park to play. Those were the days, unfortunately now it’s more like go to school, go to work, do homework, and sleep for only a little bit. But to me the thing that has changed the most since high school has been the long close friendship that I had with Rolando Martinez ‘aka Roly”. While we were in high school, Roly and I were alike in every way and enjoyed playing the same sports and after school activities together, but it took for me to go to college how in fact, we are completely different.
Communication means connecting or sharing ideas, and feelings to one another. Family and friends are one of the people that we communicate the most which is a way to build relationship, but sometimes miscommunication happens and it can lead to arguments. During high school, Three of my friends, Ella, Kass, and Karen, my sister, Rani, my cousin, Zhar and I are really close with each other. We hang out after school together. We buy matching bracelets and other things too but even though we are close we had some arguments. Friends do many things together, but there are some problems that had emerged in the relationship which may build the relationship or may cause the relationship to be broken.
