The movie is Hotel Rwanda, directed by Terry George, produced by Terry George and there are four main stars which are Don Cheadle, Sophie Okonedo, Joaquin Phoenix and Nick Notle. I watched Hotel Rwanda on Netflix with my family on a Sunday afternoon. National geographic concluded the movie as “Hero Who Fought Genocide”.
The movie Hotel Rwanda retells a real event that occurred in a small country in East Africa called Rwanda. Hutus were the majority of race compared to the Tutsi. In year was 1994 president Juvénal Habyarimana who was a Hutu, died in a plane crash. The sad news brought chaos and Hutus extremist took it to their advantage to blame it on the Tutsis. Don Cheadle known as Paul Rusesabagina in the movie was a Hutu and his wife was a Tutsi. He worked as a manager at a four star Hotel called Des Milles Collines in Kigali the capital city of Rwanda. His marriage brought him trouble with the Hutu extremist but he was able to negotiate into paying them money in return, his family. He watched his neighbors getting killed due to ethnic violence. When he took his family to the hotel, people came up to him asking for help and he did his best such as talking with the U.N Force Commander General Oliver. Col Oliver tried to ask his superiors for intervention but there was no action taken. In the first day of the massacre, the U.N was only able to rescue the tourists who were located in the hotel. Paul is a man who knew a bottle of scotch is great for bribing and could change a bad situation into lives worth saving. Such actions saved his family and friends from getting killed.
The main characters in the movie represented real people who experienced the tragedy. Don Cheadle played the role of Paul Rusesabagina, Sophie Okonedo play...

The film would have been better if there was more than one viewpoint of the movie; it seemed to focus mostly on Paul Rusesabagina. When Paul Rusesabagina saved other families maybe the movie should have picked two or more families who were in the same situation. Some families who were guarded by Paul Rusesabagina had a different situation because they did not have any money to bribe the Hutu extremist as he did for his family, so it would seem fair to at least show another side of the story. I would recommend the film to another student because the storyline is very emotional and catchy. It is based on a true story which not very many people know about it because it was ignored by the media and the world.
