Enrichment is very important to have for all animals. It enhances their quality of life and provides them with mental and physical stimulation relieving them from boredom. It also allows them to carry out normal behaviours such as foraging and playing.
Horses:
Horses are social animals, it is important that your horse is in the company of other horses as much as possible as it allows them to show affection towards each other.
Providing your horse with the chance to be out in a paddock for most of the day is important because this provides them with exercise and a chance to express their normal behaviour such as grazing and this allows them to play with the other horses.
When stabling, horses should be able to see and interact with each other and be allowed to be able to put their heads over stable doors. This reduces stereotypic behaviours as they are not being isolated.

Also puzzle feeders are good ways of keeping your horse mentally stimulated as they have to throw and shake the toy round to get food out of it.
If horses are being stabled for longer periods of time, it is a good idea to tie fruit and vegetables to the ceiling with string. This make the horse work for its food which keeps them entertained for some time.
Provide you horse with a hay net with small holes, this makes the horse work harder to get the hay out, this provided physical and mental stimulation.
Hide food in the bedding so they have to search for it allowing them to forage, this creates a diversion for horses not to carry out stereotypic behaviours.
By doing these thing, it reduces the risk of horses developing stereotypic behaviours which can be hard to stop once the horse starts doing
Once you get them to settle down and get there mind focused on just walking and the rider then you know the bond with the rider and horse are strong. When it is time for the second run of the night you want to warm them up again but not as hard this time because he or she has already been warmed up once before this, so just a little warming up won’t hurt. When it is that time for the second run the rider will bring the horse him a set him or her up for their first barrel and make the most of the race. If you see the rider smiling then everyone knows she has done her job with this horse. The rider can make an automatic barrel horse where that horse know his job and she barely has to ask the horse for a turn or touch his face to go around that barrel. When the rider gets a horse to be like that everyone can tell they spent hours and days together. The rider worked with that horse but never made him sour or hate coming into the arena. They spent time working on flexing the horse and making sure he knew when to tuck his nose and leave it for an extra second. They will all see when they are running home how much they spend time they spend together if they are fast and smooth through the pattern and don’t have any blow ups before or after coming in and out of the arena. I organized the horse breeds into four groups - ponies, light horses (usually riding horses), and draft horses (usually working horses), and other horses (miniature horses, gaited horses, etc.).
The use of horses for human consumption dates back to the earliest use of animals for human consumption. Horses are used for food in many counties but are also considered inhumane in other countries. In the United States specifically, horsemeat is not the norm for consumed meat. There seems to be a problem that has arisen. It is suspected that horses being slaughtered at horse slaughtering factories are not the most up to date, pain free for the horse, and human as people suspect them to be like beef kill floors. There are many pros and cons to horse slaughter that accompany the pressure groups on each side of horse slaughter. Another big controversy with horse slaughter is the argument of legalizing horse slaughter and what those details will entail in the law.
I have always wanted to be a Special Education teacher. I started deciding what I wanted to do in the eighth grade. This was also around the time I was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. Asperger’s is an autism spectrum disorder; people with it show difficulties in social interactions, and reading body language. For me, I have trouble making friends and having age appropriate conversations. It is difficult to read people’s emotions, which sometimes gets me into trouble. I have been given the gift to be able to help teach other children with special needs how to ride horses, and also learn about how the horses communicate with these riders differently then a “normal” person. Through working with Ian I have been able to obtain a better understanding of my career goals.
