First and foremost, I would like to say that it is a prominent honor to be a nominee for the National Honor Society. I am very appreciative in that I know this is a reward for all the hard work I have put in these past three years at Cliffside Park High School. I recall when I was an eighth grader I was confronted with a difficult decision; one that would determine where I would obtain the most crucial four years of education of my life. I was encouraged by my classmates and teachers to try out for the academies in the area. The academies are considered prestigious high schools and I rushed and scrambled to complete my application and obtain my recommendations. However, my guidance counselor pointed out something that made me think twice. He told me, “Where you go to school is not as important as you think. What are important are your willingness to excel and your commitment to learning and participating.” Until this day I still hold to my guidance counselor’s advice. I am proud and harbor no regrets whatsoever of the decision I made. Cliffside Park High School has offered me numerous opportunities. I took honors courses in English, mathematics, and science ever year. In addition, I have taken three years of Spanish as a third language and an advanced placement class for U.S. history. Throughout the past couple years; I have been able to sustain a high grade point average of about a 4.4 (based on calculations made at the end of sophomore year) and make High Honor Roll for almost every marking period. However, my journey to where I am now was not a perfect yellow brick road. Instead, it was a path with many twists and turns that led me through many dark and awful experiences. Juggling all these courses was something I had adapted ... ... middle of paper ... ...d I liked being looked up to by most of them. I am aware that character is an important part of being in NHS and I believe my personality and character make me an exceptional addition to the group. To be inducted into National Honor Society would not only be an honor, but a way for me to assume more responsibility in my school and community. I have been in National Junior Honor Society before and I hope to continue on the same path. I, along with many other students, have held to the theory of survival of the fittest. I fought long and hard to get to where I currently am and I hope to continue on the same path. I would like to stand out in NHS as well as when applying to colleges and universities. If I am fortunate enough to be inducted, I will endeavor to be the exemplary student that NHS wants and do nothing to downgrade the prestigious and significant program.
