Preliminary Investigation is after the crime is committed and then the investigation process begins. They first must come in and see if the offender is still there for an arrest, if not the case can be more difficult to solve. Importantly, if not found the case is more than likely not to be solved or takes more time to solve. According to the book at any scene the priority is to give emergency aid to the victims, if he or she is still alive, or to determine the death has occurred (pg.236). They first must check out the specifics of what is going on when they get on the scene. They must make sure there is no one dead, if there are any victims, etc. Some steps that they go through when doing a preliminary investigation is: Is there a death, are there victims, if they are a dead how long have they been dead, the decomposition of the body, check for foul place, accident suicide, etc. Then after they get information on the body, they go back to see what happened leading to the death. They must make sure that the facts add up to the body. When doing an investigation as important as this, there is always check after check, to make sure everything is right. When moving the deceased body from the scene they must be careful because there might mess up the evidence, depending on how long the body has been there, there are fluids that come out, etc. Also, the body should not be moved until they get all the information that is needed, if not they will lose the evidence, and not be able to deliver the case
