The problem im trying to solve is this, you going to any kind of big city and seeing the streets littered with homeless people. Walking down the street and seeing many homeless asking and begging for money, and rarely food. While these people might make excuses on how it happened, it doesn't really matter anymore, what matters now is that they are currently homeless. Now imagine You’re walking through some big city with a large homeless population and you see these people suffering and you want to take pity on these people while some are here because of bad luck, while others are where they are now because of many things like drugs, greed, or already living in poverty.
Here now I shall tell you my solution to help these people but also help
Principally, to a homeless person, if there was only one thing they hated, it would be pity. The only way society at this point knows how to deal with the homeless is by pitying them. They take the individuals and they put them in a group basically labeled “displaced”, then it is expected that it is up to the state to help them. Many say they try, but because homelessness deals on such a personal level, many don’t get helped because they are grouped. On the personal level, when one sees a homeless person, many, if not most people, shy away thinking that “someone else will help them”. In most cases, they are ignored. Because everyone is thinking this way, not many local homeless people get assistance. In this country, homelessness is one of the last issues to be thought of, which is why the homeless population is now flooding into small cities and towns. Homelessness should be combatted one person at a time and not as a group. I agree that everyone needs to pitch in and help rehumanize these lifeless souls, and with everyone’s help, it can be done on a personal level.

Homeless individuals are known for taking hand outs and they prefer to plead for money rather than to go work for it. People assume most of the the money that is given to homeless people they spend it on drugs and alcohol because of the fact that many homeless people have drug and alcohol addictions. It is not uncommon to come across homeless youth and older homeless population that are known to abuse substances like drugs and alcohol. Because of the fact that homeless people have substance abuse problems, they tend face illnesses and infections. Many hard working Americans ask themselves “why don’t homeless people just get jobs?” The assumption is they are just lazy and unmotivated. Homeless people choose to live the life they live. Everyone goes through problems but not all people take the path homeless people do. The problems homeless people face is not an excuse for them to be helped and maintained by other hard working people. Although homelessness might be a choice to some, no one knows the hardships these people have gone through. Some assume these people are just lazy but in reality a lot of these homeless people have jobs of their own, they just can’t afford housing and a decent life. There are millions of people in the United States alone who suffer from homelessness, meaning they are without, a roof over their head at night, and without food. Many people just overlook it, and don’t realize how big of an issue this really is. There are currently over 200 million people living on this earth with no place to call their home. England contains a very small percentage of this population, around .002%, while its capital, London, holds an even smaller amount. This small amount is not surprising, because the United Kingdom has a very encompassing Safety Net. This Safety Net is in place to help those who are or are about to become homeless. In fact the United Kingdom’s Safety Net is one of the most comprehensive in the world (“Homelessness Facts and Figures”). Unfortunately many people still end up homeless, over 6,000 in the city of London. Many, more fortunate people, strive to help those sleeping on the streets, whether on their own or through a charity like St. Mungo’s on Broadway. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there is an unfortunate amount of people who are not only apathetic, but cruel to the people left in a tough situation. In US homelessness is mainly caused by the in ability of people to pay for their housing. This condition is believed to affect people of all ages, races and ethnicity. If a teenager failed their driving exam would they still get a driver’s license? No, because if he did he would be a danger to himself and to others around him. It is the same thing with a child who cannot learn the basic building blocks of English, math, and science. This child will not be able to comprehend the advanced concepts learned in the next grade if he cannot even understand the material from the previous grade. Also he would be a hindrance to the class because he would slow his classmates down with his lack of knowledge causing the teacher to have to explain everything to him. The advancement to the next grade without passing the previous grade will not only hurt the child’s self-esteem and basic education foundation, but also cause him to be a nuisance to his classmates.

When I was young, canned food drives were a prevalent act of “charity”. It was common to see that if a person donated, that person had a good heart and had cared for the less fortunate, however there was a distinct amount of canned food donated by each class. The issue I am concerned about is of homelessness. There are many people who are living in the streets, hungry, cold and lonely. Today's world is filled with both great tragedy and abundant joy. In a densely populated metropolis like New York City, on a quick walk down a street you encounter homeless people walking among the most prosperous. Unfortunately, nine times out of ten the prosperous person will trudge straight past the one in need without a second thought. A serious problem arises when this happens continually. The problem worsens when you enter a different neighborhood and the well-to-do are far from sight. Many neighborhoods are inhabited only by the most hopeless of poverty - ridden people while others downtown or across the park do not care, or are glad to be separated from them. Such is the problem in New York City today and in Mott Haven in Jonathan Kozol's Amazing Grace.I have lived in New York City all my life and I had no idea that these problems were going on so close to home. If I live about three miles away from Mott Haven and I am not aware of the situation there, then who is?
