In fashion history, we see that Balenciaga was eminent Within the vogue between the 1930-60s. Staying loyal to his Spanish roots, his designs also incorporated Parisian influences. We see that Balenciaga creates an environment where his ideas and garments, using the colour black, the Semi-fitted suit and the egg coat, retrospectively defining that fashion era and marking his name throughout fashion history.

Christobal Balenciaga, a Spanish couturier who gained world recognition around the world as an innovative designer. Balenciaga was born in Getraria, Spain, where he lived with his three siblings and widowed mother who used to teach dressmaking to the girls in the village, which set a spark for his love of fashion, being only twelve years old he trained with a tailor in San Sebastian and Madrid.

The black dress is a creativeness of his Spanish heritage being influenced by the traditional colour of mourning, religion and worn by peasants in paintings.
