Happy to start her first day of class after waiting months to get in, Abigail got up early to pack all her shoes and clothes that she will need for her first lessons. Desperate to get there she made her mother leave thirty minutes early just so she would not be late. Arriving at studio Abigail was shook with excited thinking that this was going to be a wonderful day. Upon entering the studio, she was amazed at how the studio was decorated with art of dancers and beautiful colors filled the wall. The music that was playing filled her ears as she felt it traveling through her body. The instructor greeted her and gave her instruction to begin stretching. This girl is just one of many who love the different forms of dancing because of the enjoyment it brings. Based on the different styles of dancing hip-hop, tap and ballet are the more modern classification of dance. To begin with, hip-hop is the most common form of dance used. Hip-hop is basically street style dance moves performed to rap music. Majority of hip-hop dance moves are hardcore freestyles. Also this type of dance really does not require technique, let alone practice. Moreover, hip-hop dance has several ranges of styles. For instance, breaking is a well-known element of hip-hop. Breaking is performed by different levels of movements, such as downrock (performed close to the ground), power moves (which are acrobatics), and top rock which is performed by standing up. Tapis a distinguish structure of dance characterize by the sound of tap shoes striking the floor. Tap shoes are hard shoes with metal plates on the soles of the shoes. Tap was created by African American by using English clog shoes, that would eventually lead to the modern tap. Tap can be performing without music, this is called, “Capella dancing.” Another form of tap is “soft toe tap.” This is executed by using soft shoes without any metal plates on the soles. In addition, tap has two distinct structures. First is rhythm jazz, which focuses on the sound rather than aesthetics or beauty of the dancer movements. In group tap dances, they dance are simplified and the group must work together to create one sound. Then there is Broadway tap that focus on the actual art of dance and is mostly performed in theaters. Unlike ballet with its formal technique, tap dance advanced from people watching each other dance, whether it was in a studio or on the streets club. Tap dances are shared and reinvented among the people. Mimicking is necessary in order to learn the form of art. In today’s society you do not see many people performed tap dances as a solo or group act unless it is a part of a recital. People tend to enjoy tap because it is craft that is not easily master.
