Recommended: Difference between Hinduism and Christianity

There are hundreds of different religions with each of them having their own different beliefs and practices. Hinduism and Christianity are two of the most different and yet most popular religions. They are different in almost every way. One is polytheistic and the other is monotheistic. One has no real religious leader or founder, and the other’s is known all around the world. However, none of these differences compare to the differences found in their belief systems with regard to what happens after a person dies. The Christian beliefs of the afterlife not only differ significantly from that of Hindu Reincarnation, but also have many similarities.
To fully understand Reincarnation in Hinduism, however, a basic knowledge of the Caste System is required. The Caste System is a social and religious hierarchy separating its believers into five different classes. These classes found in Hinduism are the Brahmins, the Kshatriyas, the Vaishyas, the Shudras, and the Dalits. Brahmins are the highest in the Castes system, taking the role of Hindu priests. Kshatriyas are the next in the hierarchy and are considered the warriors or nobles. The Vaishyas are in the middle and are traders and merchants. The Shudras are towards …show more content…

These places are Heaven, Hell, and in some denominations, Purgatory. Heaven is a paradise, completely without sin, and inhabited by God, angels, and souls. Purgatory is an area, primarily in Catholic teaching, souls visit before passing on to Heaven. Here, souls are slowly removed of their sins. Hell is the antithesis of Heaven. It is a place full of sin and contains Satan, demons, and souls. Placement into these is determined by various things depending on the denomination. In some denominations, faith alone in Jesus Christ is what allows people to pass into Heaven, while others need to perform good works, as well as having faith in Jesus

They then infer that everything that does not exist forever, unlike their Atman, are not real, which they call a veil, also known as Maya, because it is not permanent. Along with reincarnation there exists karma, similar to the idea what comes around goes around, so if you live an immoral life, your future lives will be a punishment. Guidance for priests and rituals are written in the most ancient Hindu scriptures called Vedas. The Rig Veda is the most important scripture out of the Vedas. One source states that “Purgatory is very similar to Hell; the main difference is that one will eventually be released from torture. The souls that go in the Purgatory are tortured with fire. These souls remain in purgatory until they become sufficiently purified to enter heaven”(2). For example, if a soul in the purgatory asks for forgiveness and pays the punition with some tests, the soul will be released and moved immediately to Heaven (2).
