Recommended: Sociological aspects of sports participation

My average week during the school year is slam packed with activities. No day is ever the exact same, but everyday will be busy. Whether it be traveling an hour for a soccer game or going to youth group I will have something to participate in everyday after school. You could split my commitments after school into four categories. These categories consisting of work, academics, athletics, and entertainment. I work a lot during the school year when I’m not in the middle of High School sport.Three to four days a week I have work from five to close at our local Subway. This takes up to about five and a half hours of my day. I usually arrive around fifteen minutes before five and stay about fifteen minutes after close at ten. Subway isn’t the only ways I acquire work during the school year. I also work a few odd jobs around the community throughout the year. Whether it be weedeating, pressure washing, mowing lawns or painting. …show more content…

At least 2 hours a day I will have a soccer ball at my feet, basketball in my hand, or be pushing up on a barbell. I play play soccer year round, starting with travel in the fall, then High School in the Spring, and lots of pick up in the summer. During the fall I play 4 days a week and during the Spring it usually goes up to 6. During the winter I stay the most busy with Basketball. I practice 6 days a week with the High School team. These practices usually last three hours after school and take priority above everything in the winter. As for weight lifting I will try to get in the gym before soccer most days or on any day I don't have practice. It is hard to find a day I’m not doing something

College athletes have very busy schedules they follow and when finished with their schedules they are left with very little free time. Student athletes are required to take a minimum of twelve credit hours to start the semester and required to pass at least nine credit hours by the end of the semester. With this standard having to be met, the athletes are spending hours studying and attending class. Besides from studying and attending class the athletes then have to go to practice. Going to practice and participating takes up about four to seven hours of the athlete’s day. After all of this is completed, the athletes are left with only a couple of hours for them to enjoy time with their friends or even to just relax and watch a movie. But, because these athletes are college students and do not receive any money for their commitments they are supposed to squeeze time in for work in. If athletes apply for a job they are limited to only a couple of hours a day to work. Also a large number of jobs request their employees to be available on the weekends.
