The Makings of a Hero
A hero is a genuine person who cares for the well-being and prosperity of others without seeking any attention for fame or redemption. Heroes are not always wearing capes with super powers. They can be, and usually are, real people. A hero often sacrifices something of their own in order for someone else to succeed or be happy. Heroes are protagonists in story and often work against the antagonist or a force opposing the main character. Heroes possess qualities like bravery, selflessness, and a care for others. In The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton there are many characters with qualities of a hero. Dally, who gives his life to care for his younger brothers after their parents passed away, and Cherry, who is brave enough to spy on her gang show these qualities. However the most heroic character in The Outsiders is Johnny “Johnnycake” Cade because he is brave, caring, and selfless. A quality that is most admirable in Johnny Cade is how he cares for others and will do anything to help them. He cares for all the greasers and has the strength to help them. When the Socs had gang up on Ponyboy, Johnny kills Bob who was drowning Ponyboy. “Yeah.’ His voice quavered slightly, ‘I had to. They were drowning you, Pony. They might have killed you. And they had a blade” (Hinton 51). Although Johnny was terrified he still

Bravery is standing up for others with courageous behavior. Johnny shows bravery throughout the story in many ways such as defending the Soc girls, Cherry and Marcia. “Leave her alone, Dally. ‘Huh?’ Dally was taken off guard. He stared at Johnny in disbelief… Johnny gulped and got a little pale, but he said, ‘You heard me. Leave her alone” (Hinton 24). Dally flirts with Cherry and Marcia so Johnny calls out Dally to stop since he knows they do not appreciate it. Ponyboy and Dally are surprised because they have never seen Johnny act in such a brave and heroic manner
At the beginning of the novel, Johnny Tremain, Johnny was very proud. Proverbs 8:13 says, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom.” In the story, the proud youth slowly learned this lesson. In the opening, Johnny refused to be friends with the other apprentices, Dove and Dusty. He felt as if he was too good for them although he knew he could easily become their friends, for it says on page five that, “He knew his power and reveled in it. He could have easily made friends with Dove, for Dove was lonely and admired Johnny as well as envied him. Johnny preferred to bully him.” Dove was fed-up with Johnny’s boastful attitude, so when Johnny was constructing a sugar basin and asked Dove to get him a crucible, Dove gave him a cracked one...
A British General Who helped Johnny with his horse riding skills. Johnny helps him by taking care of his horses.
Who is the TRUE hero of The Outsiders? To most people, this book has many heroes that are all held in our hearts. Including Dallas, Darry, PonyBoy, and even Two-bit. But none can come close to our hero, the REAL hero, Johnny Cade. As he seems to be the strength in the group, takes all the abuse and continues to stand up, and shows a bravery that is hard to find anywhere.
Boom! Johnny drops to the floor. Kids are screaming. This is when Johnny is a hero for the second time in the story, The Outsiders. Johnny is a hero because he saved kids from a fire and Johnny saved Pony from dying.
For instance, “It had taken more than nerve for him to say what he'd said to Dally—Johnny worshiped the ground Dallas walked on, and I had never heard Johnny talk back to anyone, much less his hero.” (pg. 24) This means that even though Johnny respected Dally because he was there for him when his parents weren’t, he took a risky step and stopped him from doing something wrong. By doing this, it shows that Johnny isn’t afraid to protect others like Cherry when the situation involved his friend Dally. More importantly, “I swear, you three are the bravest kids I’ve seen in a long time. First you and the blacked-haired kid climbing in that window, and then the tough-looking kid going back in to save him. Mrs. O'Briant and I think you were sent straight from heaven. Or are you just professional heroes or something?” (pg. 95) As shown, it is important to realize that Johnny, Ponyboy, and Dally wouldn’t only defend their gang members, but they would also endanger their own lives in order to save others. It proves that their act of heroism can be used in all situations. No matter what situation they are in, the Greasers use their heroic actions towards not only their gang members but other people
Evidence: "You really killed him, huh, Johnny?" "Yeah." His voice quavered slightly. "I had to. They
What comes to your mind when you hear the term hero? Is being a hero preventing villains from corrupting the universe? Yes, a hero is someone that stands up and tries to protect others from being harmed. In the book, The Outsiders, the Greasers proved to be the heroes of the story. It shows that no matter what your background is, you could always turn into a hero. They also showed that no matter how poor you are, you can still be a hero. The Greasers that I think showed bravery and fearlessness were: Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally.
First, Johnny and Dally both die tragically after making unwise decisions in their lives. Johnny died while rescuing children from a burning church and in the eyes of the rescued children’s parents was a hero. But reluctantly this was not the case. In fact, Johnny had just killed a rival member from the Soc’s in self-defense. After which Johnny tells Ponyboy “‘I killed him,’ he said slowly. ‘I killed that boy.’ As Bob, the handsome Soc was lying there in the moonlight a dark pool growing
He went around town to see if anyone would hire him but most people wanted “whole boys” so Johnny was turned down most of the time. Johnny was still very prideful and he didn’t want to do “low life” jobs.”Yes. I wouldn’t mind so much being a clockmaker or instrument maker. But I can’t and I won”t be a butcher nor a soap-boiler.”(Forbes,61) He went to a printing shop and met a boy named Rab. He liked Rab because he was a nice and intelligent young man. He talked with Rab and they became nice friends. Johnny was offered a job but didn’t want to do it. He went out and decided to go to the rich merchants to look for work. He went to John Hancock’s estate to search for a job. He would have been accepted but Johnny couldn’t write with his left hand and was turned down.”Run away, boy, run away. You knew you could not do the work and yet you came and took up my valuable time and...”(Forbes,72) When he left the estate, a slave of John Hancock handed Johnny a bag full of silver coins. Johnny felt so happy that he treated himself to a feast and went to the market to buy Issannah and Cilla gifts. He went back to the Lapham’s household and presented the gifts to the two girls. When Johnny touched Isannah with his burnt hand, she screamed and told Johnny to go away.”Don’t touch me! Don’t touch me with that dreadful hand!” Johnny felt so sad that he ran to his mother’s grave and wept until he fell asleep. When he slept,
A better example of when he is a hero is, when the church is on fire in chapter six. "We were having a school picnic up here and the first thing we knew, the place is burning up. Thank goodness this is a wet season and the old thing is worthless anyway. " This is an example of pure heroism and guilt because they started the fire and wanted to save the kids in the church. Johnny and Pony went in to save the kids, after they got the kids out the window, Johnny was hit by a beam that broke his spine and ended up killing him.
I wondered. Dally is tougher than I am. Why can I take it when Dally can't? And then I knew. Johnny was the only thing Dally loved. And now Johnny was gone. 130
A hero is a man who is distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility. and strength to carry out tasks that involve great risks. A hero can also be a person who fights for other people to help or save them. from their fears and fears. He opposes the villain - a person who does wicked or intentionally harm others in some way, emotionally or otherwise.
There is a hero in us all. A hero is someone who risks their own life to save or do good for others. Ponyboy is a hero because he risked his life to save children from a burning church. Johnny is a hero even though he killed someone it was to save his friend’s life but he also saved children from a burning church. Dally has been arrested, picks fights, and drinks, but when it comes to the people he is close with he has his soft spots for them. All bad boys have a good side.
Is there really a hero in The Outsiders. A hero is someone who saved the life of one or many people by risking their own life. Johnny is one of those people. Johnny is a person who is very shy until he starts standing up for himself and does things he never thought he would do. Johnny is the hero because he didn’t just save the life of one but of multiple people,he would do anything for his buddies, and he listens and comprehends people that is a real hero.
Many heroes appear in the book The Outsiders. The characters that I think are heroes are Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally. The definition of a hero for me is a person who is brave enough to do things to help someone even if it is a dangerous thing to do.A hero also cares for others and people can rely on them. Ponyboy was a hero because he saved peoples’ lives. Johnny died as a hero because he also saved the kids from the burning church and he was also relied on by his gang members. Dally was hero mainly because he cared for his gang and people relied on him. These three characters were heroes in this book according to my definition of a hero.
