Responsibilities of a Citizen in a Healthy Republic When choosing just a few of the most important responsibilities that a citizen in a republic society has, it might cause one to question. What does one owe to society? What separates a good citizen from a bad one? What even are the responsibilities that the republic is expecting one to meet? Ultimately, it comes down to matter of opinion. In my opinion I think that the most important qualities for a citizen is for them to be law-abiding, hardworking, and devoted. The last thing you want in any society is lawlessness. Where no one is safe and one lives in constant fear. Nothing productive gets done in a society where everyone runs ramped. How could one get anything done while constantly …show more content…
They need to be on fire for it and believe in its greatness. Devotion is so important, it is what gives people drive and purpose to do anything. When someone is devoted it is truly amazing what they can accomplish. Now imagine an entire society on fire for its republic, it would be unstoppable. With devotion comes other things like love of country and loyalty. I believe that it was devotion that kept the United States alive. People were so on fire and believed in this nation so much they fought, and beat the odds to win this great nations independence. It can be hard to be devoted to something that is not great or if one really does not care for where they live. I understand that it can be hard to be all for something that one really does not agree with, but with devotion comes contribution. If someone is truly devoted they will vote, have a voice, and try to move a society on to better things. They will put in the effort and try to bring the society together to move forward. As a Christian I believe that no nation will never survive without God as the foundation. Now I understand that not everyone has the same religious views and some people are trying to take God out of society. I think that these people are wrong. The society will surely fail without Him. Again, these are my personal beliefs and if one does not share the same faith, we are going to majorly
Australia is a monarchy of the United Kingdom. It always has been, and yet this does not seem to have significantly and adversely affected our development and growth towards our country. Thus, there seems no legitimate purpose to change this; since a republican Australia displays a lack of conclusive benefits towards our economy and ‘way of life.’ An Australian republic would cost billions to undertake and is simply unnecessary as there are more important issues facing Australia; and if the Australian citizens are not calling for a referendum, then any serious discussions from politicians or other related public figures are irrelevant and meaningless.
citizens or do we need dependable citizens, what type of citizens do we need for a strong
According to Berelson, in order to have a successful democracy the average citizen should be following certain requirements. The ideal citizen would be one that is interested, motivated and discusses issues at hand. However, a great majority of citizens don't make an effort to participate in political affairs or civic duties. Nor do they have the motivation to participate in a political life. Most of the time, an average citizen will
With the growing number people becoming scofflaws, or people who casually break the law, there is no doubt the society lacks nourishment and protection. The author explains in his passage why these people do break these laws, “Americans are used to thinking that law-and-order is threatened mainly by
In the ideal republic, all of its citizens were virtuous and aiming for the common good. This was the conclusion reached by the Founding Fathers after interpreting the failures of ancient Greek/Roman republics and modern European republics. If the citizens were not virtuous, internal strife, factionalism, and corruption would cause the republic to collapse. Of course, “citizens” only referred to men.
Many people believe the United States is becoming a "Godless" culture. The argument is that we are losing our moral values, because religion is not an important part of our life anymore. This is the view of most Fundamentalist Christians and right wing believers. I vehemently disagree with this argument. I say this because there are many ways to practice religion. We have many ethnic populations in our country with many different religions. Because of this, there are many beliefs that differ from the Christian based or religions of only one god. Therefore, our country is not becoming Godless, there are many ways to practice one's faith.
...t societies can be weakened or even fall due to political corruption, war, and social injustice. When a society has one of these things, or even all three, it will not be a safe or fun place to live. Citizens will start riots and some will maybe even flee. And honestly, these things are bound to happen. Ultimately, we are doomed… it’s just up to us how long that will take.
In The Republic by Plato, Plato constructed an ideal city where Philosophers would rule. Governed by an aristocratic form of government, it took away some of the most basic rights a normal citizen should deserve, freedom of choice, worship, and assembly were distressed. Though the idea of philosopher kings is good on paper, fundamental flaws of the human kind even described by Plato himself prevent it from being truly successful. The idea of an ideal democratic government like what our founding fathers had envisioned is the most successful and best political form which will ensure individual freedom and keep power struggle to a minimum.
In every society around the world, the law is affecting everyone since it shapes the behavior and sense of right and wrong for every citizen in society. Laws are meant to control a society’s behavior by outlining the accepted forms of conduct. The law is designed as a neutral aspect existent to solve society’s problems, a system specially designed to provide people with peace and order. The legal system runs more efficiently when people understand the laws they are intended to follow along with their legal rights and responsibilities.
The way Society is going now is controlled by a ‘few’ who have control of vast resources for directing and manipulating the masses. And they have violent oppression of those who will not submit to their structured system of control as a back up resource.
Besides them people made other rules in their society for the sake of keeping peace and safety in societies. First, there are regulations to solve confliction in most societies. Although people in a society have same value in their mind, they must have differences and conflicts of these differences can be happen. ‘“I says I apologise, Jonas.’ Jonas sighs. It was no use. Of course, Asher couldn’t understand. ‘I accept your apology’ he said wearily” (171 2~5). In that scene Jonas tries to stop game of war since he knows how terrible a war is, but no one knows the origin of the game and a war. Therefore no one can understand what he wants to do and his friend, Asher gets angry. He tries to explain the reason of his behavior, but at a moment Asher says, “I say l apologise”. It is a rule in the society to avoid quarrel, that if someone apologizes, one has to accept the apology, so he accepts it although he has something to tell. Without the rule he might get into quarrel, if worst comes to worst, fight. That is trifle fight, but in a big scale, many people fight and no one is able to control the ciaos. The ultimate form of the fight is a civil war. If it happens people’s lives must be threatened and the society must be divided. Rules stop conflicts before they get larger. Secondary, regulation for saving people’s health and safety also play important roles to keep peace in a society. Without these regulation life level of people in a society must decline. Low level of life increases frustration of citizens and they try to escape from the frustration by using ways such as drug and theft, which is regarded as illegal in the real society. As a result, incidents that deeply have bad influence can happen as slums around the world
When mankind started to build a community, maintaining orderliness and balance also came with it. The citizens are trying to make a utopia or a perfect society for them to live in. Of course, as the years passed, it has come to their senses that there has to be someone who can lead the society to greatness. That 's the time they 've started to appoint leaders that are capable of maintaining the very stronghold of the society. These leaders have the power to control their society to their will. Unfortunately, some of these leaders became deprived of power which blinded them that instead of making a utopia, they 've made a dystopian society that drastically affected their citizens. Similar to the novel, The Giver by Lois Lowry. Jonas, the protagonist in the novel did not know the state of the society he lives in

In Nelson Mandela 's book, Long Walk to Freedom, he stated the following: “When a man is denied the right to live the life he believes in, he has no choice but to become an outlaw.” Throughout history, we 've been faced with both oppression and anarchy. When oppression is forced upon society, your taking away not only their freedom, but ability to live life to the fullest and truly be happy (Sabino). On the other hand, many argue that an anarchy equals chaos, although, history proves otherwise. We 've seen stateless societies function without a leader,
There simply is no alternate system of laws that can maintain the calm and peaceful environment for people of the world besides “law”. One can easily see the need for each and every nation to enforce its own set of rules. While all of the countries of the world have their own individuality – they all have one considerable feature which is a system of law. It has no significance what type of government is the command, the rules are all appropriate to the people in their community.
