HealthTrails Journey Travels Beyond Wellness at UGA College of Pharmacy When most of us take on a new wellness program, our expected outcome is weight loss, increased energy, an improved physique, enhanced mental clarity, and other healthy benefits. At the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy, however, a wellness program implemented earlier this year has become much more than a change in the scales, a more encouraging trip to the doctor’s office, or a smaller clothing size. It has enhanced the working dynamics within the organization. The College of Pharmacy has taken an active role in HealthTrails, the University System of Georgia's wellness initiative that was instituted system-wide in early 2017. With a goal of fostering a culture of well-being and healthy environments, HealthTrails empowers participants to track mindful habits, such as steps walked, water consumed and acts of kindness delivered, which are tallied into virtual daily miles and allows participating individuals and teams to compete among other departments, colleges and universities in the USG system. …show more content…

Employee wellness programs, also known as a “worksite wellness program”, are programs that are designed to promote and support the health, safety, and well being of a company’s employees. Wellness programs are meant to improve the health of the staff, their morale, and in turn also help improve their productivity. There are many components that make up employee wellness programs, for example; Health Screenings, Health Fairs, Fitness classes, Smoking cessation classes, and even wellness issue workshops. Employers have begun adopting these programs in hopes of helping their employees while they are at an age when health interventions can still help transform their long-term health choice. This paper will focus on trends found between employee weight and productivity, and the impacts these could have on a business overall.

In the United States today, many aspects of health are very segregated. This form of separation is referred to as silos. Animal, human, and environmental health are separated into these silos. Experts in these fields rarely work together or collaborate. The majority of research, funding, and resources are separated in to the three disciplines. The solution to this issue is the concept of “One Health”. One Health acknowledges the connectivity of all aspects of health. By working together, it is possible to detect outbreaks of disease earlier and save many more lives. One Health has made a dramatic influence on infectious disease prevention, detection, and treatment. Although there has been some advancements, there is still much
How to keep it going strong? As previously noted, determining employees’ expectations and promoting programs can help create a more positive perception of the organization and that is important. Therefore, once the assessments have been completed to supply the base line data, employees’ needs and wants have been determined, and the leadership support needed is where it should be, one can almost “jump in” with the activity with an exception of one final item – assessment of readiness of the employees to change. If the assessments used in designing the wellness initiatives contained questions regarding this topic, this information will be at hand. However, it is important to note that employees may move back and forth in the stages of readiness. The employee needs to be “met where he is” and even small steps towards healthier lifestyles need to be encouraged (Kotter, 1996; Lowe, 2004). Additionally, communication is very important and it will be described a little bit later in this paper under its own heading.

There are a couple of things HealthFit can do to continue growing revenue for the club. First, I would recommend going into the retail business. Selling workout apparel with the clubs name and logo would be a great way to make money. People often have a hard time picking out what to wear to the gym or how to buy gym clothes. This will make it easy for your customers, and can also be a great way to get publicity. The retail doesn’t have to stop at clothes, the club can sell bottled water, energy drinks, snacks, supplements, at home gym equipment, etc. to make a profit. Next, I would recommend selling nutrition plans. A lot of people often get into the routine of going to the gym; yet, they find it difficult to eat properly. By having various
Extravagant wellness projects are been taken at corporates so as to ensure the wellbeing of the employees. It is a fact and an observation that on average employees spends the major part of their life cycle at work. Corporate social responsibility has by and large focused on maintaining “goodness” at workplace. The way we feel is reflected in the work we do.
Today, approximately 70 percent of companies have some form of a wellness program while 90 to 95 percent of large corporations offer programs that look at employee well being (Carlson, 2014). A Workplace Wellness Program is shown to reduce sick time, workers compensation, disability and health care
Healthy People 2020 is a program for the promotion of health and the prevention of diseases, launched by the Department of Health and Human Services in December 2010. Creating an individual health and wellness plan helps you plan for your future of creating and /or maintaining a positive, safe lifestyle by addressing underlying issues. “No matter how hard we try and no matter what skills we bring to bear, some problems remain out of our control. When this is the case, we can tell the truth: ‘It’s too big and too mean. I can’t handle it.’ In that moment, we take a step toward greater health” (Ellis, 2015, p. 320). Problems and their solutions within a health plan can be evaluated through five different categories: Diet, Exercise, Rest, Safety, and Health Support. Today we will discuss how I was personally affected in each of those areas and how I plan to implement a solution.
With the health care costs reaching high number there is no wonder we have a large number of absenteeism. So many wait to the last possible painstaking work day to decide to see a doctor about their aliment, and all of that could be prevented. Preventing oneself to have to take time off from work is one way to keep costs low. There are so many areas that need to be addressed when it comes to what is going to slow us down as a company. According to estimates by Dr. Jaime Claudio(1991), a corporate wellness consultant for Health Plus, a provider of health-care insurance, a comprehensive eating awareness and weight- management program designed to improve long-term habits could generate an 80% reduction in the incidence of potential problems caused by obesity in the workplace. These problems include hypertension, diabetes, coronary heart disease, and diminished work efficiency. Obesity is not the only eating disorder that is a problem, there is bulimia and anorexia. Smoking, drinking, substance abuse, and stress are problems that are brought into the workplace and stop productivity. We have to be aware of issues that are there but are not usually thought of as an illness.
As of 2012, 17.2 million adults that were unable to walk a quarter of a mile and this numbers are expected to continue to grow rapidly over time (National Center for Health Statistics [NCHS], 2014, table 49). This means that not only will the employees benefit from utilizing the wellness program by reducing stress, but also reducing their possibility to be one of the individuals listed as a statistic. Presumably, employees who take advantage of wellness programs tend to be absent less often, manage stress more effectively, and control their weight (Martocchio, 2014, p. 263). These are all areas that everyone should be concerned with, and by incorporating a wellness center, the employees of Premier Financial Services will benefit
College; it can be a scary, yet exciting journey. While intimating, it can provide a chance to get out of one’s comfort zone, and through the experiences one can be slowly pulled out of their hometown bubble. For example, living with a new roommate, navigating through campus, or dealing with time management all contribute to a challenging adjustment. However, one of the biggest concerns college students experience is the struggle of maintaining one’s health. While staying fit throughout college is an arduous and demanding task, it is vital for students to be conscious of the dangers of inadequate fitness and personal wellbeing. The problem of poor health in college students can be overcome by the general
