The rate of poverty over the years has increased significantly. Eighty percent of our world is living on ten dollars or less(). Could you imagine your family trying to live off of that little of money on a daily basis? It is nearly impossible, but some people try their best to make it work. If you were to live off ten dollars or less a day how would you buy enough food for your whole family? Or if someone in your family gets sick, could you afford to take them to the doctor?
A major global issue that is significant to me is poverty. It is significant because our world is filled with it, and poverty alone kills hundreds of thousands of people daily. The absence of it and the price people have to pay creates healthcare poverty. In developing countries our healthcare is the worse. Nearly 2 million children a year die because they do not have the ability to treat preventable diseases like diarrhea or pneumonia (). In 2013, studies show that 21.8 million children under the age of one died from not receiving three recommended shots; diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis(). Parents and families around the world simply did not have enough money to take care of their health. With the lack of funding, it is hard for hospitals to get the proper supplies needed to treat patients.
