A research paper on communication in health care work environment
Abstract
Many factors contribute to the effectiveness of service delivery in the health care working environment. Communication is one of those major factors. Communication between employees and employer and among the staff members has a direct relation to services provided to patients. Internal communication within the organization surpasses all that takes place within the organization pervades all procedures and is the bridge between the management and the organization. It is through communication that such information is acquired. Since conveyance of information is dependent on communication, does this mean that good communication in the health sector can be beneficial to service delivery? If so, what are the effects? This research paper aims at providing answers to these questions. Health care on the other hand is a phenomenal human centered industry. It is therefore important to understand that all the complex procedures in this industry such as treatment of patients, provision of food, hospitality and instructions are executed by people. This study was conducted to identify the role of communication in the health environment especially between employers and staff and among coworkers, who include health care practitioners and the support staff. The study focuses on vertical and horizontal communication and look at how each affects the relationships of hospital staff and management. Vertical information involves employee and employer communication in situations like supervision, direction and giving orders.
