Harry Houdini was a genuine illusionist who loved to look death and failure right between the eyes every time he performed yet another one of his astonishing performances. Houdini had a deep passion for entertaining crowds that were well into the hundreds. Harry Houdini will forever be known as “the magician” because of his impact within the magic industry. Harry Houdini immigrated to America from Hungary; he then had a notably thrill-driven career that eventually led to his death where he left behind his everlasting legacy.

Most knowledgeable people would not describe Houdini’s early life as a tranquil one, but rather as completely troublesome. Houdini was born on March 24, 1874 as Erik Weisz. He was only four when his family emigrated from

Houdini needed to find an income to support his family after his father died. Harry Houdini had to grow up fast and begin providing for his family like his father did; this is where his legacy begins.

Soon after his childhood, Houdini was already full of optimism for his newly discovered interest in magic. He began by forming “The Brothers Houdini” with his friend, Jack Hayman. This group went on the road doing card tricks, coin swaps, and simple disappearing acts (Cary). The group was well known in small towns, but this was not quite Houdini’s “big break.” While he was on the road in the spring of 1893, Houdini met his wife; her name was Beatrice Rahner, or Bess (Hull). They were truly in love, even though they were both still teenagers. In 1894, Jack Hayman soon grew tired of always being on the road; his spot was briefly filled by Houdini’s younger brother, Theo.
