‘Plays in the early 20th century typically portrayed negative black stereotypes through practices such as blackface, and the plays of the Harlem renaissance portrayed African-American characters as realistically human.” Now that the blacks could actually act and have roles in plays, the way the blacks were seen became more realistic and people couldn’t make them out to be horrible people anymore. Some people were more artistically talented rather than musically talented, and that's why Visual Arts was another huge importance during the Harlem Renaissance. Drawing, painting, coloring, sculpting, and ect. gave the more artistic people a way to express the way they felt. Their art work did not just speak on behalf of them, but of the whole black community. Art was a more realistic way to bring awareness to the community on how badly the blacks had been treated. They painted art that showed how their bodies would look after a long day of slaving away for rich white people to show how wrong they were treated.
