Compare and Contrast Civilizations
Throughout history, the way civilizations have changed over time have varied greatly, in the specific environment civilizations where located. Civilizations can be located near rivers, trough arid land, and with predictable or unpredictable climate. With the environment being anything form the surrounding vegetation, to neighboring villages that may pose a potential threat. Civilizations need to establish themselves within the environment has led many to warfare and others to collapse. With floods providing silt, and irrigation, the adequate land for agriculture lead to the production of surplus food, which established civilizations within the Indus River Valley. The constant river flow of the Indus River and the predictable climate led to the great organization and political structure of the Harappan Civilization. The Harrappan civilization have achieved a stable civilization built on agriculture, which had in interest in pottery, metallurgy and brick structures. With the Harappan civilization having a surplus of resources, trade and shelter, the insecurity index of the Harappan was significantly low that the need for weapons was not needed. The Harappan civilization is thought to be a very peaceful society, having only a few war like weapons as stated by Edward Cork in the article, “Peaceful Harappans? From the Mesopotamians thinking that there is nothing to be forgiven in their religion and society. Which was affected by their outlook on their unpredictable rivers, and rivaling cities that wanted their resources. From the Egyptians having a future in their afterlife, as they saw the rebirth of the land cause by flooding. The peacefulness of the Harappan society and the structure in which they lived in, supported by the steady flows of silt coming from the river of Indus. The environment may change the insecurity index on a society to the way it is shaped and formed, dictating if civilizations will be ruled by warlords, by priest, or by citizens.
