Throughout the play, Hamlet sees himself in a negative light. He recognizes his faults and tells the reader about them through the five soliloquys, Hamlet says he blames others for his problems and for the things he has been put through. He sees himself as an idiot who is incapable of doing anything, a coward, afraid to do anything and he believes he only makes mistakes. He wants to be guided and told how to do everything like military soldiers. He recognizes all of these thoughts and feels. Hamlet thinks like this because he does not want to fully recognize and take responsibility of what has happened to him in the past. The ghost gives Hamlet the information he needs to confront and slay the king, Claudius, but Hamlet makes excuses and goes against his father insight. The ghost disowns Hamlet as his son until he can admit and act on his wish. For this the ghost lives in Hell for the entirety of his undead life and Hamlet no longer has someone he can call his father. Another person Hamlet affects is Claudius, king of Denmark. Hamlet loses all respect from Claudius due to multiple tantrums and a lack of power he is willing to show. Hamlet embarrasses and makes him a villain in front of all the commoners in Denmark through his play “The Mousetrap.” Because of this Claudius exiles Hamlet and makes a deal with Laertes to cease his existence. This betrayal leads Hamlet to behead Claudius for conspiring against him. Through his sense of self, Hamlet also hurts his mother, Gertrude. He makes her seem tainted and guilty for her actions and blamed her for things that she was not involved in. He physically and mentally hurts her multiple times to the point where he just causes chaos instead of explaining and rectifying the situation.
