Hamlet by Shakespeare is a story of a young prince who is determined to uncover the reality of the recent death of his father. The uncle to Hamlet, also the brother of the deceased king, Claudius, gets married to Hamlet’s mother. Subsequently, Claudius takes the throne. At the kick-off of the story, an apparition of the late Hamlet’s father tells him that it was Claudius that, in fact, killed him. The theme that is seen to be consistent with this play is the tragedy that that exists between the concept of reality and appearance. The character that we are introduced to in the play seems to be very pure and full of honesty. On the contrary, this is not the case as most of these characters are infested with a lot of evil. Deceitfully, these characters tend to behind an integrity mask.
The main characters in this play that are seen to be masked with righteousness include Rosencrantz, Guildenstern, the new crowned King Claudius, and Polonius. Truth, morality, and honor are the first impression that is demonstrated by these four main characters. They are all overwhelmed by lies and evilness in reality. He consistently gives the impression of this affectionate and a highly caring character. He is brought into the play as a dad who cares for the son deeply. Polonius speaks to his son, Laertes, with pieces of advice that sounds quite sincere. However, in reality, this is filled with deception, rehearsal, and just empty advice without feelings attached to it.
