Shakespeare elaborately designed the revenge scheme that takes place in Hamlet. Many factors from the story come together to create the plot of revenge. The first factor is the instigation that gives Hamlet the idea to take revenge against his uncle. The next factor that affects the plot is the internal conflicts that Hamlet faces throughout the story. The final factor affecting the revenge plot goes along with external conflicts and real world battles that Hamlet faces.
The opening factor that affects the revenge plot starts when the ghost of King Hamlet instigates Prince Hamlet to take revenge. Prince Hamlet begins to feel the need to avenge his father after his interaction with the ghost that claims to be his dead father. During this meeting, Hamlet learns the truth behind his father’s death and the dark secret that his Uncle Claudius is hiding. The ghost that Hamlet sees urges him to avenge its death by taking the life of Claudius. This scene clearly shows the motives of the ghost. Throughout the story Hamlet deals with many suicidal thoughts and constantly wonders if death would be an easy escape from this life. He constantly wonders about the afterlife and the consequences of what happens to those who kill themselves. These thoughts affect Hamlet the first time he tries to kill Claudius. Hamlet would not kill him during his prayer because he was afraid that Claudius would go to Heaven. These thoughts constantly burden Hamlet as he is never able to find out what is in the next life
