One day when we were walking around on Halloween night we were walking around and we walked by the creepy old house. Then when we saw it, we were curious to see what it looked like inside. Floyd and I went up to the house and then all of the sudden the lights flicked on and the door opened. The group walked in and the floor was really old so we had to be careful. We kept hearing sounds and then there was footsteps coming towards us, the doors creaking open, the floor creaking, and voices that were close. The group was in the bloody kitchen when all of the sudden the floor broke and all of us fell into this secret room sort of thing. We started exploring the dungeon like basement and then we found another door which all the voices were coming
I remember it was Freshman year [in high school] and all the upper class lacrosse girls told us to meet at one of the girl’s houses because we were going to go to a party. We met up there, and got into three different cars and started driving. The van I was in had 6 other girls in it and I was pretty good friends with the senior driving it so it didn’t take long for the senior to tell us that we weren’t really going to a party – and that we were going to go visit an abandoned insane asylum. I had never heard of Glenn Dale Hospital and the entire trip, we were told of how many unexplainable deaths used to occur at the hospital and how if you go there today, you can still hear the screams of the patients throughout the halls. I don’t remember what road we ended up on, but next thing I knew – it was all of us freshman walking through a long field seeing a large building in front of us. The closer we got… the slower we walked. We started talking about everything we had heard in the trip up. One girl mentioned that there are still bodies and papers left in the hospital and that the place was abandoned after the workers refused to keep working there after so many inexplicable deaths. Another mentioned that there are always cops patrolling the place and you can get arrested for trespassing. Ironically, as soon as the girl finished talking about the cop, we heard a loud voice from the other side of the building.
When I learned that I would have to do my ethnographic report on what I did during Halloween, I was worried because I live in Turnpike and the most excitement that happens in turnpike is the sound of the garbage truck when it comes to pick up the Wednesday trash. Fortunately something did happen to me and I realized I would not have to write a boring paper of how I woke up and just stayed in my room the whole day. Well the day started off with me waking up and walking to the bathroom to take a shower, as soon as the turned the water on I realized I had left my shower and rather than turning off my shower I stayed in because the warmth of the hot water was too seductive for me to get out and get my towel. In the shower I had my usual thoughts about life, death, and comebacks to old arguments. Afterword I got out of my shower and reached for my toothbrush, which was located in a cupboard behind the toilet, but I grabbed at it too quickly and it fell in the toilet. I stood over my toilet for about five minutes just staring at my toothbrush in the toilet not believing what just happened, after that I started blaming myself for being too impatient. When I was done feeling sorry for myself I went into my room in search of another toothbrush but unluckily I couldn’t find one, so I had to go walk to the local store at around 7:30 in search of a toothbrush. While searching for a replacement toothbrush I realized that not that many people were in the store, I had always thought that stores were busiest in the morning and evening but apparently that’s not true. Once I got my new toothbrush I finished brushing, got dressed and went to catch the 11 to the Transit Center.
Before that night, I didn’t believe in the paranormal. Now I sure as heck do. I had been chased out of my house after a fight with my step-parents because I wasn’t doing well in school (I had dyslexia), and I had taken shelter in what seemed like a normal house. I realized what I had gotten into after the sun set. The doors were locked without a sign of anyone going near them.
When someone hears, “New Orleans,” they immediately think of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras is a tradition that can survive, and thrive, no matter what the circumstances. Take, for example, after Hurricane Katrina hit the city, there was much argument as to whether or not to even have the celebration, but many of the citizens were in favor of it, with one of them saying, “it’s what New Orleans spirit is all about,” (Mitchell, 791). Among those who were in favor of keeping with traditions after the decimation of their city were The Mardi Gras Indians. A group of people who wish to pay homage to their ancestors, they dress up in ceremonial garb and parade around the city. The Mardi Gras Indians are an important part of not only the Mardi Gras celebrations, though, they also play a part in New Orleanian culture as a whole, as exemplified by the study of social, economic, and cultural patterns that are closely associated with them.
I have the freedom to game in America. My favorite game is Midnight Club. First, I raced Trevor in my favorite race “Welcome to Hollywood”. I like Trevor because he is a guy with shades. In America, I have gaming choices and the freedom to participate in gaming interests.

When I was younger I would walk to school every day and I would walk pass this brick house that stood on the corner by its self with three green steps leading to a white door. For some reason that house always looked familiar to me and I always had a bad feeling about this house but I have never known why, until one day my dad picked me up from school and we walked passed that same house and I asked my dad why does that house look so familiar? He told me that I was born and raised in that house until I was ten years old. He told me that two guys broke into that house and tried to rob our house while everyone was sleep. One night, around 1:00 a.m., my roommates and I were sitting in the common room, and I asked the group if they knew of a compelling ghost story. My one roommate, a 20 year old from Pennsylvania, said she had heard a ghost story at the summer sleep-away camp she had attended when she was younger. She heard the story around a campfire in the woods of Camp Tonikanee, which is in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. She described her story as one that the counselors would tell the campers to convince them the camp was haunted.
The living room was dark and the only thing you could see was the brightness of the TV. Also, I could still hear many people talking from down stairs, fire truck siren going off, and the city lights that were still shining bright. At the age of seven, on a cold Friday night in Brooklyn; my mom, cousin, and I started watching some scary movies since it was around Halloween. There was this movie called “Child’s Play” and as a child, I didn’t like the movie at all due to the fact that there was an ugly doll that was moving and killing people. During, that weekend it was showing marathons all weekend long since it was the Halloween weekend. The bed was pulled out with all the warm blankets and snacks besides us waiting for the move to start.
For years, ghosts and poltergeists have been a part of our popular lexicon. From stories told around the campfire, to motion pictures like The Haunting, to books like the Scary Story series, everyone has heard a good ghost story or two. Many people claim to have actually been party to a few supernatural experiences themselves. But for as long as we have told these frightful stories, science has been attempting to explain them beyond the typical bump in the dark.
Paranormal experiences can occur anywhere and to anyone and the way a narrator interprets it determines how it affects them. Christopher Brown has an experience with shadow beings that influenced the way that he views graveyards along with his views on the supernatural. Experiences like the following greatly influence a person’s beliefs and emotions. Beliefs are change from the experience or the experience shapes their beliefs. Experiences are also sometimes hard to explain, especially when rational explanations fall short. One simple occurrence like Brown’s demonstrates how much goes into interpreting and understanding these events. It all varies based on how a person relates the experience to their beliefs and how they want to explain it.
I was a good day and a half of long hours in the car with mom. Listening to music and chatting the whole time. When we finally pulled up in a what was a overgrown driveway covered in weeds with shade of the trees above. I knew this was going to be our new home sweet home. As we finally pulled up the new house it was very broken. In the front 5 polls holding the roof up. The worn out brick was layered in thick busy weeds stretching up and around the whole house. Some windows were curiously boarded up some even broken. I saw something weird in the window. I pointed it out to mom she said it was just dirty but I knew I saw a little girl. She was dirty and about six or seven. She looked upset like she lost her favorite stuffed animal. I
Christmases are usually filled with excitement, joy, and family, but this was like no regular Christmas. This was a Christmas straight out of the “Nightmare Before Christmas” movie. A few years ago, we travelled to Tampico, Tamaulipas in Mexico for Christmas to spent a week with my aunt. She lives near the beach, and we always spent our time running through the water and building sandcastles. Although my time there is filled with a ton of good memories, it also consists of scary stories, myths and legends of witches and of Mexico's very own, the Llorona. No matter how many times I hear these stories, they still scare me. But at the end of the day, they were just stories and that would comfort me.
I had spent the night at a friend’s house and I couldn’t sleep so I called my mom to come get me and bring me home. On our way home I talked to her about how I wasn’t comfortable sleeping away from home and how it scared me. When we got home I rushed to the door because my grandma and my little sister Alyssa were waiting for me. As I opened the front door I could hear screaming and voices I had never heard before. My heart started racing and I couldn’t think about anything but that I wanted to see what was going on. I shoved the front door open and my mom rushed to be behind me. It was dark that night, I was nervous that this dreadful day was going to get worse. Sunday, October 23, 1998 I wanted to start writing this to tell about the weird things i’m starting to see in this new neighborhood.
