Hairstyles come in all shapes and sizes. They can be short or long. Over the years, hairstyling has played a major part of the female and male culture. Beauty has also played a major role in ones culture today. Over time, new hairstyles have been invented. The media can play a big role in different hairstyles promoting the new looks on celebrities or models hair. Hairstyles worn today, starting form the colored Mohawks all the way to the long trendy hair, are related to those dated back in the ancient time. A hairstylists median pay is is $27,530.00 per year.(“Bureau of Labor Statistics”) Beauticians have insurances that assure them from malpractice/ injuries occurring from products, etc. “Life insurance is a personal choice.” says Mrs. Douglas. Mrs. Douglas stated that “Beauticians can invest in 401k as a personal investment. 401K is a retirement savings plan. It allows one to save some money of their check to be taken out. Hairstyling is a job or career choice that requires comprehension, originality, visualization, inspirational ideas and self-confidence. Hairstylists must be able to work under high-levels of stress and know how to multi-task. They must be able to deal with different situations, such as the different personalities of people.(Encyclopedia) Additionally, A hairstylist must be tolerant and patient with all clients and be able to work independently and with other. They must be able to stand on their feet for many hours. Most employers look for the ones who have the stamina to work the required hours.(“Learning Path”) All applicants must be dressed appropriately and have good hygiene. Some qualities a hairstylist must have are creativity and customer service skills. Additionally, one must have listening skills and time-management skills. Time-management skills is a very important skill to have when styling hair because hairstylist have to be able to finish the clients hair in a certain amount of time to do another clients hair.
