Roman, Greek, Persian, and Han women all had certain limits on what they could or could not do in each society. In all societies dating back from 600 B.C.E to 600 C.E. women were considered inferior to men but that doesn’t mean women did not have rights and roles they played in the community. Women’s roles in society throughout each civilization was different ranging from, their purpose being only to bear children to being commanders in war. The Romans believed that women played a vital part in Roman society. Women in Rome were in charge of taking care of the children. They had to make sure the children were educated and could eventually become kind healthy citizens of Rome. Not only did women play a part at home but also in religion. The Romans even had a select religious role for women this was know as the Vestals. Luckily for Roman women they had more rights than the women of Athens in Greece. The women in Athens had very little rights similar to the women in the Han dynasty. Athenian women’s role was to bear children. They were taught to clean, cook, and do other household chores. Politically, women had nothing to do with anything related to politics. Only men could vote and take part of Athen’s politics. Women weren’t much needed outside of their house. Spartan women were able to decide who they wanted to marry and could even divorce. This is similar to the women of Persia because they too were able to choose who they wanted to marry. This is much different from the women in Athens as well as the women in the Han dynasty because in both the Athens and the Han dynasty women were married young to whomever their father chose. Girls were able to get a public education and could even participate in some sports. Though the women in Sparta were treated well, it didn't even compare to how well the women of Persia were
